Vaginal Vault Prolapse??
Help! The last 2-3 days I've had PAIN in my vaginal area-it feels like I've just given birth again! The only way it feels better is if I lay down! It was so bad last nite that I had to put an ice pack between my legs. Can this be a sign of vaginal vault prolapse?? I am 7 weeks post op-and resumed work last Saturday. I work part time in a bookstore so there is plenty of standing and lifting and bending to be done. Plus I had to clean up from our sidewalk sale-lifting piles of books to be put away. This was monday. Tuesday I had to pick my mother up off the floor where she had fallen. She is terminally ill so I doubt she weighs more than 90 lbs but it was dead weight (no pun intended ) Thursday nite I worked again at the bookstore-shelving books-not hardcovers but lots and lots of paperbacks along with much bending. My dh and I resumed intercourse just after 6 weeks and things were going GREAT! It hurt just a bit to make love Thurs nite but Friday! Wow, did I feel like CRAP! Anyone out there have any suggestions?? I called our nurse line and the ob/gyn on call and the doc suggested no lifting or bending. Hello! That's my JOB plus I have 2 children still at home. Should I call my regular doc on Monday and get in to see him if I"m still having problems?? I DO NOT want more surgery-I've been kegeling like mad but THAT HURTS!! Sorry to ramble-wanted you to have the background on this.
Thanks Gang!
Amy

Vaginal Vault Prolapse??
Hi, Amy! Ouch! Sounds like you very much overdid the lifting and activities. You really do need to have your regular gyn check everything out to make sure you didn't damage his nice work. Hopefully it's just a lot of swelling that will go down in time. In the meantime, keep your feet up and rest (probably don't even do Kegals since that causes more pain and wait on intercourse until your dr gives another ok). Is there any way you can do lighter chores on your job? Your dr could write you a note to say you can't do heavy lifting. Sorry to hear about your mother's health--I'm sure that's another stress on you. You may need to hire someone to help with lifting her. You can't risk your own health and well-being, or you may need another surgery and really be "out of commission" for awhile. If your pain gets severe. head to the ER. Just when we think we're back to normal, something happens to remind us that we're not 100% healed yet, and it can take up to a year! Let us know what your dr says and how you're feeling. Hugs and best wishes!
Ruthie

Vaginal Vault Prolapse??
Hello, Amy
I also think that you may have overdid it and should call or make an appt with your dr. Even though you are 7 wks post-op and back at work, you still need to take it easy. You're not completely healed inside, and 90 lbs is a lot of weight, especially at this time of your recovery. You sound as if you have a lot of stressful things going on at this time, and I am truly sorry about your mother. Take care of yourself, get as much rest as you possibly can, and let us know how you're doing. I'll keep you in my thoughts and my prayers.

Vaginal Vault Prolapse??
Hi Amy,
I'll also be interested to the responses you get from the fellow princessess. I'm also 7 weeks post and back at work...on my feet and doing too much. I'm a speech therapist and work in a hospital running from bed to bed 3 days and work the other 2 doing home care with patients that sometimes involves me physically supporting them if they get up to walk and are unsteady. Of course my second week back I had some difficult patients and strained too much. I felt lots of pressure in and above the vaginal area and was worried. I also continue have a swelly belly by mid afternoon each day. The nurse at my dr office said I just need to "use common sense" and keep off my feet more (seems impossible when you are back to the job). I asked what the lifting restrictions are at this point and she said 40 lbs. My boss told me that if a patient falls I need to call 911 to get them up rather than take a chance at injuring myself. It sounds silly as we know we are superwomen :muscle: but I guess that's what I'd have to do. I am sorry about your mother's illness and I hope that she doesn't experience another fall. However, if you does you may need to call for assistance so you won't risk injury to your internal suture sites.
I wish you speedy healing and hope the MD can answer your questions.

Vaginal Vault Prolapse??
Here's a website I found about vaginal vault prolapse you might want to check: http://www.mentorcorp.com/gyn/gyn_about_vp.htm
Whether or not you are experiencing all the symptoms, I would still call the dr. Hopefully, it's just because the stitches are dissolving. My dr told me at my 4 week appt that my stitches had not started dissolving yet and not to be alarmed if I experienced a little discomfort and/or a little spotting when they did start to dissolve. But it sounds like you're having more than just a little discomfort. Doesn't hurt to get checked out just to make sure.

Vaginal Vault Prolapse??
Hi, I just found this website; boy, do I wish I had found it sooner! I had a TAH/RSO in November 2000 and have been experiencing little 'nuisance' complications ever since. One of them is "vaginal prolapse". Or at least I think it is. At first I thought I was just still healing, but I still experience discomfort a year later! If I stand too long and go to sit, I feel like my vagina is pulling down. And vice-versa, if I sit too long, I feel like it's going to just drop out when I stand up! :confuse:
I hope everything clears up for you, there!

Vaginal Vault Prolapse
Hello Amy,
Yes, you really overdid it. And from what I have been able to find out weight restrictions are less the 40 lbs.
Check out the UPRISe forum,

Good luck.

Vaginal Vault Prolapse??
Amy,
The doctor should have performed a uterosacral ligament suspension or sacrospinous vag. vault suspension as a preventative for vaginal vault prolapse. This is routine procedure performed at the time of a hysterectomy. Did they remove the cervix as well? I would call your doctor ASAP and find out what exactly was done.
