posterior repair...when can you sit again?

I had TVH, posterior & anterior repair, vault suspension, and perineum repair 2 weeks ago. The hardest part of my recovery is not being able to sit for more than 10 mn. It has been very limiting in being able to do anything. I am also only able to stand for about 10-15 mn. Any helpful hints on pillows, wedges, or anything else that has helped with sitting? I do have a donut, but that is still uncomfortable. When were you able to drive again? What about work? I feel like the other repair work has been harder for my recovery than the hysterectomy. Thanks for your advice.

Re: posterior repair...when can you sit again?

I had TVH with rectocele repair the 29th. I can sit to some extent. Most comfortable is in the recliner or bed with my legs bent and a pillow or two underneath them taking the pressure off, but I can also sit at my desk for a few hours a day, with breaks in between, shifting a lot, along with still being on Vicodin. I, too, believe the repair is more painful than the hyst. Not much pain elsewhere.

Re: posterior repair...when can you sit again?

I remember the pain well... I had my surgery & repairs in January. It was difficult to sit for the first couple of months. Speed bumps in the parking lots were a killer! . I sat in a recliner to keep the pressure off, slept with a small pillow between my knees and used a heating pad often through the day. Mostly I could manage the pain with Motrin but there were days & nights that loratab came in handy. Try not to sit for long periods and switch positions often.

Re: posterior repair...when can you sit again?

I had SAH and posterior repair nearly 4 weeks ago. The pain I had was all from my abdominal wound. My vaginal repair started just inside the vaginal entrance so I had no stitches in the perineum, but I had no pain from it at all. This may have been because I was on lots of pain-killers for my very sore abdomen!
At 3 weeks I no longer had pain from anything, only discomfort, and now I take only the occasional paracetamol (acetaminophen).
When you have pain you wonder how long it will go on, but as long as you take things easy and do as you're advised, there comes a point when things suddenly feel a whole lot better. Hang in there. You're only at 2 weeks so it's very early on, and you've had a lot done. Each week will feel better than the last, and you'll feel SO much better at 4 weeks than you do at 2.

Re: posterior repair...when can you sit again?

It was hard to sit for long periods for me until I was about 3 months post op. I sit quite a bit at work so I found getting up frequently and changing positions helped. The worst post op period for me was weeks 3/4.
