yeast infection common?

Has any one had a problem with yeast infection after hysterectomy?? I have had one in November, December, and now. Is this, orcould it be, hormaone related?? I don't see my ob-gyn until March 28th. I was given a sample of monistat the first time, and diflucan the 2nd., which I refilled this time. Just wondering about the hormone thing. I am on Climara patch 0.5. Thanks!!

yeast infection common?

Hi Margaret Ellen, I also had a yeast infection after TVH 1-17-02. It was from all the antibiotics that were given to me in the hospital. I get them everytime I go to the dentist, because I have to take sooooo many antibiotics before any dental work. It is fairly common. Eat a little yogurt every day like 1/4 cup and it REALLY helps.. yeast infection common?

Margaret are you having a discharge or a smell with these infections? If not then this might be hormone related. I found that I had the symptoms of a yeast infection without the discharge or smell when I needed some vaginal estrogen. Very irritated down there and some pain after intercourse. Dryness seemed to get worse as time went on and then there was the dwindling of the sensation down there.
Its an idea anyway. One way to find out would be to actually get it cultered to make sure it is an infection and not some irritation from low estrogen in the vaginal area.

Yeast after Hyst

I too experienced yeast right after my hyst and have read that it can be a common problem for us ongoing. The best prevention I know of is to eat yogurt with LIVE, ACTIVE CULTURES daily. That gives you a good supply of the friendly bacteria that keep yeast from growing out of control. Additionally, you can take acidophilus capsules or liquid (from your health food store), which have the same live cultures found in yogurt.

Good luck!

Thanks

Thanks to those who responded. Good point, Brenda. I really did not have a discharge or odor, and told the nurse on the phone so. The second time it happened, I said I wanted to be checked because I wasn't sure what it was and there was no discharge. My doc's partner said it was yeast, but I'm not 100% sure a culture was done. This time, no discharge. I think it may be a need for estrogen cream, or even an allergic reaction to a new bubblebath or lubricant. But, I was on antibiotics two or so weeks before this last infection. I plan to discuss all this with my ob-gyn in March. Hopefully, I will not have any more symptoms next month!! I will try eating more yogurt.

yeast infections after surgery

I got a yeast infection 8 weeks after surgery and no matter what I was given the yeast stayed strong. The Dr I used to go to moved to another town and I knew my job would not let me off the afternoon just for an appointment but I decided I had to go to him cause he is the only one in our area that specializes in hormones and cares about the patients well being. Anyway I made the appointment and was I glad I did. After having the yeast for 4 months I am yeast free! He used a purple medicine that he applied inside and around. It was great two days and I was cured!

yeast infection common?

Hi Margaret,
I just read your thread about the yeast infections. I am 3 weeks post op and I'm on the Climara patch 0.1 mg. I have a bad yeast infection and am self medicating with yogurt and Tri-Dophilus. I wanted to know what your Dr. said concerning any tie to the yeast infections and the Climara patch? Or is it an estrogen problem at all? Please let me know what you have found out!

Thank You,

Gloria:

I have not found out anything yet. I just refilled my diflucan, and used over the counter suppositories. So, it cleared up. I do not see my doctor until March. However, if I have these symptoms again before then, I will definitely go see him. Esp. since I am not sure it is really yeast. (No discharge).

Yeast Infection?

Hi Margaret,
Update on my yeast infection! I called my Dr. with my symptoms and he prescribed Diflucan 150-mg. It's only one pink pill! Today is the second day after the pill and my yeast infection is almost all cleared up. I'm also taking Tri-Dophlis and yogurt like I said before. Thank God I have insurance because I found out that pill cost $50.00. Can you believe it!! I only paid $9.00 because of my insurance!!
Oh....the symptoms I had before the pill were burning and itching, I had alittle discharge (It was clear almost like water) and no smell. If it comes back I will ask my Dr. if it is hormonal.

Take Care,
Super Hyster Again!
Gloria
