Post surgery diet?

My doctor suggests I eat an easy-to-digest, low gas, preferably high fiber diet for a while after my surgery. Any suggestions as to what worked well for you? I have 5 days to go so I'm trying to get everything ready, including stocking the pantry and frig for my return.

Thanks!

Post surgery diet?

Hi Kodakid, good for you, planning ahead!

When I was post-op, I drank a lot of ice water (kept a pitcher next to me at all times) and some juices. Cereal such as raisin bran to add some bulk, and soups and light meals were what appealed to me. Things to avoid are beans and gassy veggies, such as broccoli and cauliflower. I was also amazed at how small my appetite was. I would get hungry, but very small amounts would fill me right up...wish that was still the case!

You may want to check out the "Sisteritaville-HysterSisters Cookbook" by using the 'forum jump' at the bottom of the page. If you scroll down the menu, you'll see a bunch of different recipe categories that the ladies have submitted to answer questions such as yours.

Best wishes and s

cereal and juice

Hi! I am 9 days post-op and have been enjoying Muesli cereal (also called Familia) with milk and a banana. I let the cereal soak for a while in the milk before eating, so the grains can soften up. It's light and tasty and definitely wakes up the digestive system! My doc recommended it. She also recommended Kashi cereal, which I haven't tried yet.
I have been drinking a lot of iced water and iced fruit juice. Grape juice is my current fave. I got a bunch of juice boxes of all kinds and some bottles.
My appetite's been good but light, so for lunch I microwave a little quiche or something and can't always finish it.

Best wishes!

- Flo

Post surgery diet?

I haven't found that anything really bothers me. I am 3 weeks post op and began regular food in the hopsital on day 2 (they made pass gas first before they'd feed me!!).

I feel just as normal as I did pre surgery (actually trying to cut down just to lose some weight), but I've even eaten some junk food and I feel fine.

I need to increase my water. I did real good the first week and I've been getting lazy about that! That's healthy post op or not, it's just good for you. I'm going right now to get some!

Post surgery diet?

Ditto the raisin bran. It really helped.

Also, just stay bland and non-gassy for the first couple of weeks. I had friends (god bless them) dropping off meals for us and some were very hard to digest (i.e. chili with beans). My body was in seventh heaven with bland chicken dishes, rice and salad.
