My body HURTS!
Hi, all. This is my first post in Hysteritaville -- although I posted a LOT over in the Jungle before I got my hormones straightened out. I had my TAH/BSO in 3/2000 (almost 2 years ago!) I'm doing quite well, except for the weight gain (20 pounds -- and I needed to lose about 12 BEFORE the surgery!) and my joint and muscle stiffness.
Does anyone else have this problem? I wake up in the morning just sore -- feel like I've been run over by a truck. Sometimes it gets better as the day goes on, and sometimes it doesn't -- this is one of the days it isn't. It seems to center both in the joints and in muscles. Maybe I'm just getting old (I'll be 45 in June), or maybe it's hormone related. Any ideas, anyone?
I've also read the posts about people trying to lose weight. This is a hard one. Before my hyst it was comparatively easy. I'm eating all the right things and have started walking on the treadmill about 40 minutes 4 X a week, but I'm still waiting to see results. I gained 10 pounds over the holidays, but that was my fault. I went hog wild -- with emphasis on the "hog!"

My body HURTS!
Hi Jillio,
Welcome to Hysteritaville!!
I can certainly relate to your post. Although the joint stiffness and muscle aches are not constant or daily, I have noticed an increase since surgery for sure. I am just the opposite in that I seem fine in the morning but have days where I get sore during the day.
And I can relate to the weight gain as well. I am using a treadmill too and trying to do it daily, but I know I am not getting into my target fat burning range, and so I am not seeing much change. It definitely seems like its harder to drop the weight since this surgery. I am 43, and I don't expect to be the weight I was in my 20's but it sure would be nice to drop the 30 lbs that I have gained since my surgery. I will keep at it though.
I have been looking at those new Ab belts that are everywhere on the market these days and thinking about trying one of those as all my weight seems to be in that area.
Have you talked to the doctor about your joint pain? Perhaps there is something he/she can suggest to help with this to allieviate your discomfort. Hopefully others will come by with some info to share on this too!
Hugs
Maria

My body HURTS!
HI Jillio,
Welcome to Hysteritaville. Glad to have you join us over here.
It is really hard to say what the join and muscle pain is all about. You may converse with your Dr about this and what may be done. For some it is the aging process for some, over use, others old injuries. So check with your doc and see what they say.
Please go check out my web page the Aerobic page. It will explain heart rate zones. You may not be working hard enough or you may even be working too hard. Make sure your energy input (food) isn't exceeding your energy output ( exercise).
Just a tad bit of information Maria. Those ab belts, the ones that stimulate the muscles, don't help to reduce. They don't even help to strengthen. What the are used for are people whose muscles have atrophied. So they use them to stimulate people who really can't move.
There is no such thing as spot reducing. It has to be the whole body working together to achieve its rightful healthy state.
If you want to tone up the abdominal get yourself a stability ball. Sit on it all the time. If you have a desk job take it to work and sit on it. Use it at your home PC. Then look into moving on the ball. It is a terrific exercise tool. It is extremely fun as well. Mor info? Contact me
Blessings
Jody

Ahhh Jody, I thought those Ab belts were too good to be true. 300 crunches in 10 minutes sounded really good without the work!! Thank you for your wonderful knowledge on this.
I have seen those balls, and they look really great. I wonder if they would be high enough for my desk though? I am 5'7" and all legs, so I am quite short from the waist up and find I need my chairs raised to the highest position. I saw one of those balls in the Sears catalogue today as a matter of fact. It is 65 cm or 26 inches. I think I will get it and try it for my desk here at home and see how it works!! Thanks for the great info as always Jody!!
Hugs!!

Your welcome Maria.
I am 5'7 also and I use a 65cm ball.
If I may suggest purchasing it online from spriproducts.com. Here is the link http://www.spriproducts.com/sprionli...unction=cmLink Scroll to the complete ball workout. You get a great ball and a great video which will really give you a good start on the ball. They throw in a pretty useless pump but you never know when you will need it! The package ($29.95) with shipping($8.50) will come to $38.45. The ball sells for $24.95 and the video sells for $24.95 so it is a good deal buying them together.
The main reason I suggest this video is because they are very safe and explain each exercise well. It is a good workout also.
Let me know how you do!

My body HURTS!
Hi jillio
It's nice to hear you're doing ok--but that waking up feeling like a Mack truck hit you reminds me of how the ladies talk about how they feel with fibromyalgia.
I sure hope that's not it, but you might do a search on the Road forum and look at what they say and see if it sounds familiar. There's a monster thread there I started called Some things I found to help Ang (and others) and I put in some stuff I found poking around the internet.
I know that magnesium and the B vitamins and enough water (and sometimes adding progesterone back in) make a huge difference with me when I'm feeling aches and pains. And oddly enough exercise itself really helps, though the resistance to starting is high!
Hope some of this helps.
The ball sounds GREAT, Jody. I've been seeing them in magazines, but at my tonnage I was afraid I'd just well deflate it. Is there a weight limit to using them?

Trish,
I believe there is a weight max but I also believe it to be pretty high. I have a few people that use the ball in my classes that are over 250 lbs and the ball is hanging on tot hem very well.
I have sent an email to get more specific information. When I receive that I will get back to you.

Thanks for your input, ladies. I have a doctor's appointment on Monday and I'm going to talk to him about the joint and muscle pain.
Jody, I checked your link for the fitness ball, but couldn't find the one you were talking about. Is this the "resist-a-ball?" This may be something I could do to supplement the aerobic exercise on the treadmill to strengthen my muscles. I'd appreciate your guidance on which one to buy as a beginner.
Thanks again!!
