need of info

I really don't know much about ovarian cysts. The one on my right ovary grew from 3.3cm to 5.1cm in two months. Is that fast growing? Should I be really concern? No ovaian cancer in my family that I am aware of. There is plenty of other types of cancer though. I am 47 and all my children are grown up. I really have one good week a month. Having a total hysterectomy and both ovaries removed will be good. I just don't want to go through another surgery if need be in the future if I kept my good ovary and just removed the right. I am glad I can type this out and get off my chest. I am driving my hubby nuts. I keep changing my mind at least 50 times a day. Thanks for the pos comments thus far. Deb

hello

I just had my TAH/BSO on the 28th. I am 45 yrs old. I choose to have it all removed and the doctor agreed that Im at an age where they are not needed and could cause problems in the future. I knew I wouldnt be up top more surgery if needed so why not get it all done at once. I have no regrets so far.
Good luck keep us posted

Hi Debbie! I too had cysts on one of my ovaries and had had it for years. My doc said it was about the size of a pencil eraser. When they talk cm's I dont know what they are talking about so having something to compare it to that I could relate to was a help. When I had my ultrasound before surgery they could see that it had gotten worse and also my fallopian tube looked like it had fluid built up in it. I told my doc that I wanted to try to keep the other ovary if it was alright. He told me after surgery that my left ovary was "not a pretty sight and that my tube was twisted and was large like a sausage"... I loved his description! So now all I have left is my right ovary and everything else is gone. I am getting along fine with one and do not have to go on any HRT which was the really good part. I am just a few years younger than you (43) and didnt want to have to take hormones unless I had to.
If you have any other questions, dont hesitate to ask!
Good Luck!

Hi,
I too drove my husband nuts, and myself trying to make such a big decision regarding a TAH. Since I'm 51, I consulted with a couple of doctors who suggested that I take out both ovaries, so I did and am happy with my decision of never having to worry about another surgery or worse yet, ovarian cancer. (I kept the cervix) I don't have any family history of cancer, so it was a tough decision. Six weeks post-op, I'm feeling fine.
It's a big decision and you need to decide what is right for you. And I think it is OK to keep changing your mind until you have all the information you need to decide!
Best regards to you.
