Exercise post op?

I am wondering at what point have you other women who are more than 6 weeks been able to do mild exercise (more than walking) and not end up with a sore swelly belly??

I have had a post-natal baby and mom yoga tape leering at me from the top of the tv for months..I wasn't up to it after the baby was born( uterine infection from hell) and was thrilled that at my final appt Wednesday the Dr said Iwas free to resume life..the first thing I did Thursday morning was pop in the tape..

It is really gentle stuff, and I was even extra wimpy on any abdominal stuff, it is alot of simple positions that you incorporate baby into,,so it was almost like play time for us.

But oh boy,,, about 6 hours later my belly was soooooooo sore..I took a mega dose of ibuprofen and and hot bath, and still felt like I was about a week post op. Today I am still sore.

Obviously I am not ready for this,, my body is screaming loud and clear!! ( my hyst was vaginal, so no ab. incision). But when should I try again? The Dr's office was not helpful when I called to ask,, they said to wait a week or two,,but I wanted to hear from the great wise women here!! What was your experience??

Thanks everyone!!

Exercise post op?

Hi Staci,

I am moving your question to the Fitness Forum. There are some super duper fitness ladies there who can answer this question as well as others that might come up as you go along.

I am so happy for you that you have recovered so well, and are feeling good enough to want to get into that exercise tape!

Have fun in the Fitness Forum!

Exercise post op?

Staci,
You are a wise woman to realize that you are not ready yet. How old is your baby? It seems to me that you have 2 issues to recover from. Pregnancy and surgery. You need to expect a little longer recovery period.
Next time you try you may only want to try a short 10 or 15 minutes. Make sure you rest plenty before and after and increase your water intake to about 2 quarts per day.
Your best bet is to gradually add minutes onto this workout, be patient with yourself and listen to your body.

Blessings<><

waiting

My baby is just barely 5 months. I am past the typical post partum recovery time, but it was just a really unfair time! I never felt good, in fact from the time he was born I had constant abdominal pain the same level as the day after my hyst..it was retained placental matter and a major infection..so I never quite got back on my feet, then surgery,,I feel great now!!

I really am itching to start moving more,, because there is a rock wall calling my name!! I can't wait to start climbing again,,I thought this yoga would be a good start ( I did yoga during pregnancy)....but now I shall wait..

Should I just try an easy session next week, or wait two weeks?? I don't know how to tell if I am ready..and don't want to give it a try and end up feeling like I did a couple nights ago!!

When do others start exercising successfully again??

Staci,
I am so glad to hear that you are feeling great!
I am sure this has been a very difficult time for you. I think that if you feel up toi trying the tape again next week that would be ok. If you approack it with caution aqnd maybe even only do 10 minutes at a time and then come back after a 1/2 hour or hour and pick up from there. This may help. Kind of like eating little meals. Very gradually work up.
