Post Op 3 months...

Hi Everyone-
This is a great website. It seems there has been a lot of experience and knowledge visited here. I need help and hopefully some of you can give me some info. I am 3 months Post-Op and am currently using the patch, Vivelle 0.1 mg. I had my uterus removed in 1997, one ovary removed in 1999 and just had my last ovary removed in 2001. (2 surgeries too many!!!) I had suffered a little from depression in the past and now, my mood is much better. The problem I am having is that I am suffering terribly from anxiety and panic. Reading your newest article has given me some insight on maybe why I am. I also have been getting really itchy lately, too. This anxiety is making me crazy, though. I also have brain-fog quite often. Would lowering my estrogen dose help at all? I also have taken St. John's wort in the past and Kava Kava. I really don't want to take Xanax if I don't have too. I notice if I drink any alcohol at all, it makes me anxious and then depressed. Caffeine doesn't help much either....Boy, this is Fun!!! Thanks for your help.

Hi Mardi, You might get some better information if you visit the Hormone Jungle Forum. The ladies in the Jungle really know there stuff and might be able to give you some very sound advise. Here is a link to the Hormone Jungle Forum to make it easier to find it. Take care and I hope we can help you.

Post Op 3 months...

Hi Mardi, Well, you sound like so many of us those first months. I can tell you as you search and learn and time goes by it does get better. I use to have terrible anxiety/panic those first months. I am not sure as you are going thru the first months of hormonal change and upheaval if you can target your hrt for awhile. At least, i couldn't. I don't even think if i had the perfect hrt, it would have worked. Progesterone is the one thing these ladies say help them with the anxiety feeling (terrible feeling).

But the one thing i would like to say is: until you find your balance if you need a little help from xanax or whatever you and your doc. decide on, don't feel bad about taking it. I felt terrible about taking xanax (very low dose) for awhile. I was scared of addiction, i was ashamed i couldn't control it myself--mad me feel week. Plus 100 other reasons. But ya know what, i was bad and i needed some help for awhile, and i came to the conclusion it was inhumane to live like that. So i gave myself permission to take medication to help with anxiety for awhile. And as my hrt became balanced and some time went by--i just didn't need it anymore. As i look back on those first months i am so glad i came to terms with a little help is ok--sometimes we just can't do it on our own. It is a personal decision, but don't suffer to much with the anxiety---it is a miserable way to live and it is not forever. Good luck in whatever your decision is.

Hi Mardi and welcome to the jungle I too suffered with anxiety. Mine was due to low estrogen and even though the progesterone helped it wasnt until we got my estrogen levels up that I actually free of the anxiety attacks I was having. Not long ago I had a problem with the dosage in my estrogen (pharmacy tech made a boo boo and I ended up with no estrogen in my script) and the anxiety was on its way back. Once I picked up the new script and started using it it all disappeared again.
Just wanted to point out that it can be from low estrogen also. Hopefully it will subside fairly soon. Sending HUGE S your way. I know its rough and if you need the anti-anxiety drugs dont hesitate to use them until you can get a grasp on this. S
