Light headed / Staples

Thanks so much for all your support.

Since starting this post, my incision and staples got infected. I noticed it oozing yesterday morning and for the past 2 days about half of my staples were red and swollen. So I called the Dr. and he told me to come right in and what RELIEF to have them out!! They sure did pinch alot and with them being so irritated it fells MUCH better that they're out! I really only felt the ones that were very sore and swollen but it wasn't that bad. He didn't put any steri-strips on them (maybe because they are red and sore) but I'm still a bit worried about it opening. He says no problem!

Here's a question for ya. I have been on Tylenol #2's, one every 4 hours since being home. I stopped taking them 12 hours ago to see how things will be. I noticed I've been kind of light headed and wondered if it was the drugs, post-op from anaesthesia or just my body adjusting. I'm still having the same loopy feeling but not stumbling or anything. I DID almost faint in his office yesterday, maybe because I had a one hour drive to his office.

I was just wondering if anyone else has had this light headed feeling. Thanks so much!

Hi Lisa

Did I read your post right? Were you driving for one hour so early in your recovery? And feeling light-headed? No wonder you almost fainted!!!

Regarding the light-headedness, it could be due to several things. I remember feeling that dizziness, both post-op and later in my recovery and, in my case, it was due to hormonal imbalance. It could also be due to residual anesthesia still in your system

Either way, I would mention it to your doctor. Often, relief is available, providing we ask for it.

Sending lots of s your way. Please keep us posted on your progress.

Good GOD!

No I was not doing any driving to my dr. appointment!! I'm not near that brave yet. It's actually a little better today when I'm off the codeine. Thank you!

Just thought I would clarify that!

I also have been feeling light headed, I notice it the most right after a shower, I suppose, it is just my bodies way of telling me to have a seat. Take a load off. In any case, I have been feeling a little better everyday.

I did call the Dr and told him the one form of Codine that he had me on made me feel really sick to my stomach, that was oxycodone, he then put me on hydracodone, and it did help with the stomach sickness.

About the meds, I have not taken one during the day since about a week out, however, I do take one before bed, it helps me to sleep as all the walking and day to day, "getting around" has really made me a walking weeble by the time the day is over. I have trouble with comfort when going to bed, you might want to consider taking one at night. Doc says that is okay as I am not taking them all the time and if it helps me rest at night, at this point, that is okay.

I hope you are feeling better soon.

Take care,

Phew!!! I hoped I had read that post wrong: feeling light-headed myself from a bout of flue

I'm so happy you're feeling better today. Codeine is very strong and can cause serious side-effects.

Kim: I found that showering was the most exhausting thing I had to do in those first weeks!! I would be amazed at how weak I'd feel afterwards. I guess you're right: it's just your body complaining.

Ladies, just keep on resting and taking it easy. Time to be the pampered es

I felt light-headed for almost a month after my TAH/BSO. I cut my Estrace to 1 mg. and instantly felt better. I could not drink coffee for 2 months or I felt dizzy. I could not drink for 2 months either. I missed my coffee and glass of wine very much. After a shower I also felt worse. 8 months later I feel terrific!!!

Occasionally, I still experience dizziness. In my particular case, I think it is hormone fluctuations. I am still wandering in the Hormone Jungle trying to achieve hormone balance.

Be very careful taking long, relaxing, hot showers. There is an actual decrease in blood pressure when you take a hot shower, and you can faint.

In early post op, NEVER take a shower when you are home alone.

Blessings and s

Lisa,

WOW... i never drove my car for a month after my second surgery (you can read about it titled "my surgery from heck") so that would be 6 weeks after my first. and even that, i just did short trips close to home.

as for light headedness... yes, i got them too. i just thought i got off the couch too fast. (you know that rush!?) in fact i still have some ever once in awhile now. remember my hemoglobin was below normal, so having a light head was not too hard to have.

i had 16 staples to close my incision after the second surgery. no infections. thanks goodness. and i even took my hot baths soon after getting home as well. nothing like a hot bath to soothe away one's troubles away.

ok, so maybe i didn't help you out much here, but it great to share!

take care
always
patti
