Dhea

What is DHEA for? My levels were originally low and doc told me to take 12.5 mgs once a day. Next test showed dhea levels normal but estradiol 10 times normal and progesterone 6 times normal. (He then dropped bi est and progesterone to 1/5 what I was taking below.)

There's currently a lot of interest in this hormone. As far as I know (from a book written by an endocrine specialist in Oz)
it's an adrenal androgen in it's form in the body. Adrenal androgens can convert to a weaker form of estrogen. So if my info is right then it shouldn't be making a difference as far as your Estradiol level goes. However maybe the progesterone was being converted to estradiol seeing as in the hormone pathway it is a precurser to estrogen and testosterone.
Maybe Trish has a little more info on this and will come along and give you a more definitive answer.

Maybe that's why my testosterone level was so high (and it's unsupplemented). Right now I'm a mess and trying to stick with 1/5 of what I was taking for another couple of weeks until I take my new saliva test. Seems I'm back to square one right after the surgery, with rage and depression, blah, blah, blah. Blah! I have tied my little fingers together so I won't be tempted to twiddle with the creams.
Thanks for the ideas, guys.
Eileen
