What the heck???

I was sound asleep last night when I was awakened by a noise/vibration. Sounded like someone driving spikes somewhere right outside my house. I live alone out in the country on a farm, so I couldn't imagine where the sound was coming from. It took me awhile to get my bearings. Finally as I was lying there and the noise/vibration continued I realized what I was hearing and feeling was my own heartbeat! What the heck is that about? I wasn't hot or anything, at least I don't remember that. I just remember this pounding and ringing in my ears. I know I wasn't dreaming because I made sure I was completely awake before I determined what was going on. I took some deep breaths, settled back down then went back to sleep with not much problem. It was startling more than anything. I'm taking .9 Premarin and haven't felt much different than before my surgery. Anyone have any thoughts on the matter?

What the heck???

I was watching Oprah last week and Dr. Christine Northrup was the guest. She just wrote a book on menopause. I am 12 days post-op, that's why I was watching Oprah Anyway, Oprah had been having symptoms similar to yours and was going to heart specialists, etc. Then she learned from this book that heart palpitations like that are symptoms of menopause. Look story short, Oprah discovered she is in menopause.

So, maybe that is what is happening with you. Did they take your ovaries? I had a TAH/BSO and I ordered Dr. Northrup's book from amazon.com the other day. Figured I will need all the info I can get.

Of course, as Oprah and the Dr. said, you should always check out these heart things with your Dr., yada yada yada. But I have talked to friends who have experienced this, so it might put your mind at ease to know that.

What the heck???

Thanks for the info. I figured it probably fell along those lines.
I've always felt a great kinship with Oprah. We are one. So did they say is this something I can expect for many months to come? I thought the Premarin was supposed to take care of this. Does this happen only at night? Guess I should get the book, huh?

What the heck???

Hi there,

Please give your doctor a jingle and tell him your symptoms. I have always been told that if you have something occur significant enough to wake you from a sound sleep, it should be followed up on.

As a matter of fact, that is one of the indicators for how significant pain is. If you can't "sleep through it", or if pain awakens you, that is an indicator it is fairly intense.

I have had a similar sensation when I had allergic reactions, so it doesn't necessarily mean that you have developed heart problems. So, don't worry about it needlessly. Just call your doctor so he can follow up if he wants to.

Take care and let us know what you find out.

Blessings and s
