rectum spasms, and terrible pains

Hello there,

Can someone please shed some light on my problems please. I have had a hysterectomy and overies removed with the scope thingy. I am 15 days post .. I was feeling really good for the first 7 days.. everyday was better than the next. I started feeling terrible pains in my lower belly that ran to my rectom.. yes.. gas pains at first. I had my first weeks check up and the doc said to take a stool softener.. I did.. it helped me have those wonderful BM's.. . But I am still having these god awful pains. They don't bother me at all during my nights sleep.. but when I wake up.. here they come. I do have a BM and feel a bit better but during the morning I continue to have these pains. Sometimes it is not the lower stomach pains.. but the sharp knife pain right at the opening of my rectum.. What do I do?????????????? HELP PLEASE... My stools are not hard, but soft, and yes I do have some gas.. but not like before. These pains that start in my ( what I think is my intestines) and move down into my colon area.. are so painful they double me over. I find myself doing the breathing for labor to get through them. I need some advise please. Thanks..

spasms

I have experienced the same problem. I am 3 weeks post now and I can tell you that it does get better. I would have the sharp pain and would just have to breathe as you did. I am not sure what causes it or why it happens but as the days progressed they seem to happen less often. I still occassionaly have a monster one and feel like "just shoot me now" but like i said before, they have gotten less frequent. I will go to my dr next week and i will ask him for us

I think you should call the dr. today ( even the one on call for sunday ) and get some help or at least reassurance.

A couple of weeks post the anesthesia leaves your system alot more and you do get a let down and feel a little worse, but this much pain sounds like something a dr. should be asked about, just in case.

Hope you're more comfortable very soon.

Hello all,

I want to thank you all for posting helpful suggestions on what I could do to help those god awful pains. I did get some GAS X and it has helped tremendously... Whew... if it hadn't I thought I was a going to go nuts. Hubby may think I am already.. ha ha ha.. but I don't think so.. not yet anyway.. Thanks again.

rectal pains, spasms, etc.

Hi Betty,
Gee do I feel bad for you. I went thru the same pains and thought I was seriously going-to-die! They are gone for the most part now, although I still have a few problems with the ole digestive system. My doctor told me to change laxatives. I was taking senokot, then correctol, milk of magnesia(a bit better), and finally prodium, which also caused a bit of cramping but NOTHING like what I had before that. She said that where our systems are different, what may work for one may not work for another. Of course, common sense. I eat as much roughage as I can. Get-ting pretty sick of salads and all bran by now...hope you start to feel better soon...take good care of yourself

rectum spasms, and terrible pains

Hi all, , I'm glad it's not just me! I have "the pains" too, off and on, sometimes pretty bad, and they go away for a while when I have a BM. I use Gas X religiously, also Colace, also prune juice every morning and I'm eating tons of fiber. My DR says when the rectum is "full" it stretches the stitches in the "P" part of the "A&P repair" and that hurts, sometimes quite a lot. Glad to hear it will "pass"

rectum spasms

Thanks ljaie for your post.

I have been feeling much better since I took that GAS X. I do still have some problems with the spasms, but they seem to be when I have a bit of gas and have to have a bm.. I know that is blunt.. but the truth.. : ) I don't have those awful pains anymore thank goodness. But I do seem to have some lower tummy pain when I bend down... I am now 4 wks post op and am wondering how long I have to wait to do some bending.. I am doing a little bit at a time.. I just hope that I can be ready to get back to work in 2 weeks, like I am suppose to do.
