light pink spotting 8 days post op
I had a TAH BSO 8 days ago. 2 days ago I developed a fever & sore throat. Dr. put me on antibiotics yesterday. I have sneezed 3 times in the past 2 days...I'm worried about it affecting my internal stitches. I have had a little increase in pain on my right side and found a light pink discharge on TP. I had a small amount of discharge in the hospital, but none since I came home, until now. I have also had very loose stools for 3 days (probably due to prune juice & antibiotics). Has anyone ever had problems with sneezing & discharge post op?

OHhh! sneezing!
I have sneezed a few times and boy that isn't fun... as for the discharge I think it could be from the sneezing but from what I have heard as long as it isn't bright red you should be fine...
I would just ask your doctor...
I would have a little discharge if I had over done it so that was kinda like a reminder not to do it...
I hope your cold gets better soon...

light pink spotting 8 days post op
Hi Julie ... One thing I have learned here is if you have anything that bothers you please call the Dr. and ask them. However, I spotted in the hospital also. Then when I got home it quit for a few days. Then all of a sudden spotting again. I had a terrible cough and when I called the Dr. and asked about it I was told it is normal to spot. Well, that spotting stopped and a few days later started again. Called again, NORMAL I was told. I started having an odery discharge last Friday, called again, they told me to come in and check for infection. I was fine, it was the internal stiches starting to dissolve, guess what ??????? ..... spotting started again with that. I think it is very normal, but I called everytime. I was told by my Dr. office that spotting is very normal, if you should start saturating a maxi pad every 2 hours or more you have a problem. The spotting I have been having isn't even enough to change a little pany liner pad more than once a day. Also wanted to tell you, when I had that terrible cough I asked about it doing anything to the stiches and was told those babies are strong and it takes alot to pop them open :-). Hope this helps and good luck to you.

Hi Julie!
You've gotten some great advice here from these wonderful ladies! The only thing I wanted to add was to suggest using a tummy pillow to protect your tummy from getting too jostled during those surprise sneezes and coughs.
I had one with me at all times during my recovery, until probably about week 4! It really did help!
Take care, sweetie!

How could I forget the tummy pillow GEEZ! Toonces you are so right on with the tummy pillow. I dont go anywhere without it. One day ... I went to the bathroom and realized I didnt bring it with me ... I had a slight panic attack LOL. Seriously that tummy pillow is with me at all times when I am at this site reading the waistline posts .... I laugh so hard at those. I take my tummy pillow into the store with me too LOL. One day I went to the store and didnt want to take it in. I started coughing in there and my family even got nervous as they realized I didnt bring it in with me. My kids always ask now if I have my swelly belly pillow? LOL

it's okay
I started to have some pinkish spotting on TP about a week after surgery. I was disappointed since I had none by the time I left the hospital after TAH. I'm at 2 weeks post-op and having a bit more leakage, spotting that is a bit more brownish. Saw my doctor yesterday for 2 week incision check and all is well. She said that it was all normal. Some ladies bleed/spot slightly for a week or two and some the entire 6 weeks. About this time she confirmed it's due to the dissolving of the internal stitches. She reports that sometimes some blood can kind of pool a bit inside, and appear to seep through all at once. Not to worry unless bright red or there's lots that continue. It is always reassuring to check in with our doctor. I explained how sad I was to even see anything and she reminded me that this will definately be the last time. Then you can rid yourself of all those pads. Yippee. hang in there.
