Bladder sling problems 2 years later

I had a hysterectomy back in 2010 with a bladder sling that I never asked for. The only problem with the hysterectomy is that I was just told a couple of days ago by the ER doctor that I still have a cervix. I don't understand because I wanted everything taken out except my ovaries. My big problem is my bladder sling. I have been on a heating pad and ibuprofen for over a week. I have pain (cramps) and pressure in my lower abdomen everyday. I can feel movement also, like I'm having bladder spasms. I've had cramps on and off since my surgery but now its just constant with no break. I'm not married and I'm rarely sexually active so I didn't even think I had a problem until this past Valentine's. Sex was very painful and I suffered extreme pain and i was bedridden for 2 weeks after. It was awful! It felt like knives were stabbing me up the crotch. Twice I woke up with severe sharp rectal pain that lasted for hours. I also have lower back pain, nausea and frequent urination but when I go, it just trickles out. I went to the ER (no insurance) because I was SURE I had a bladder infection but it turns out that I don't. The doctor told me the wall of my vagina is prolapsing and then he referred me to a urogynocologist. This bladder sling never fixed my leaking problem, it just ruined my life. Does anyone know what test I need to see if my mesh is eroded? Something is definitely wrong.

Re: Bladder sling problems 2 years later

Hi there. I'm so sorry you are having these issues. You really need to see a good urogynecologist. If your prolapse is causing your symptoms then you need to address that. There are several things you can try and it doesn't always mean you need surgery right away. If they used mesh for your sling and it's eroding then that's a different story. Find a good uro and get examined so you know what you're dealing with and go from there. Best wishes and lots of (((hugs))) to you!
Keep us posted!

A good urogynecologist should be able to determine if your mesh has eroded or what is causing the pain.

Re: Bladder sling problems 2 years later

I had a bladder sling with my hyster in Dec 2011 and have had problems since. My OB/GYN referred me to a urogynecologist and am scheduled for surgery 2 weeks from today. I am stage 2 pelvic organ prolapse and she wants to remove the sling - I am hoping that will fix my leaking - get into a specialist! I wish I wouldn't have waited so long.
