Pre-Op Appt Today!

Hi Ladies,

I just recently heard about this site and it is wonderful. I ordered the Hyster Sister Book Set and have been reading it. I wish I had more time to find out more information, but I have my pre-op appt today and I do have a list of questions, but I know there will be something I will forget. My surgery is scheduled for March 4th, so it is rapidly coming up on me.

I will tell you a little about me. I went in for my normal pap and yearly exam back in Oct. At that time they discovered that I had 2 fibroid tumors, but my uterous was enlarged as well. I have also been having heavy bleeding for quite a while. The doctor started me on a mild hormone hoping that it would help with the bleeding and tumors. They also did an ultrasound at the same time. Then wanted me to come in for a follow-up in 2 months. Well I went in and she examined me again, nothing had changed, the bleeding was still heavy, the tumors had enlarged, so she wanted to do another ultrasound and a biopsy. The tumors have about doubled in 2 months time and my uterous is really enlarged, about the size of someone 4 months pregnant, and I look pregnant. So she told me the uterous had to go. I am 45 yrs old and I am still trying to figure out if I want to keep my ovaries. I got my biopsy results yesterday and everything was fine, thank God.

I have also had Gastric Bypass Surgery and lost 140 lbs 7 yrs ago, had a baby in 1996 and I had a Tummy Tuck 1.5 yrs ago. I am concerned about if I have to have this done open that I will have another scar and that it might mess up my nice tummy tuck. I know that sounds silly since I already have a road map stomach. It would be great to be able to have it laproscopic assisted vaginally, but my other doctor is concerned about adheasions and scar tissue from my previous abdominal surgeries, I also had both my babies c-section (those scars are gone since I had my tummy tuck).

So I guess what I am trying to say is I am getting very nervous and not looking forward to another surgery, but I know I will feel so much better afterwards. I guess I am just looking for some support and kind words and anything you can advise me with on this would be wonderful. My stomach is so upset and hurts and I can't sleep, so I guess that is why I am on line at 4 am.

March 4th as well

Hi Carleen!

My surgery is also scheduled for March 4th and I can't believe how quickly it is approaching! Best of luck at your pre-op appt today and with the surgery. Soon we'll be on the other side with a crown on!

Pre-Op Appt Today!

Welcome to the best support group!

I guess I would ask very specific questions about your concerns to your doc. It would be a shame to have any reversal of your previous surgery. However, with LAVH, the adhesions and scar tissue may be able to be taken care of, which I am sure you probably have some adhesions. Perhaps your doc would consider attempting a LAVH and then converting to TAH if necessary? Good luck with your decision.

To Keep or Not to Keep My Ovaries

Me again, the newbie....I am still trying to find out more information on whether or not to keep my ovaries, I have not had any problems with them but at 45 I don't know if they are going to do me any good, since I am already in peri-menopause. Any suggestions, opinions or comments would be appreciated.

Thanks

Pre-Op Appt Today!

Just info. Your ovaries continue to produce some hormones even after menopause. My dr. says that lasts up to 10 years. One hormone that continues is the testosterone. It has something to do with libido. Lots of women get along fine without it. Wish I knew more.

Pre-Op Appt Today!

Carleen,

Wow, you have described pretty much what I have been going through! It's so comforting to know I'm not the only one in the world.

I was put on Prempro back in December and now I can barely drive my kid to school, sit or anything, I have too much pressure. Somehow I'm getting things done, takes me longer though.

I had so many problems sleeping last night as hubby and I went to the doc yesterday and they confirmed the fibroids and scheduled the date. I have 2 fibroids, each one is 3" long...one on the top and one on the bottom.

We are military and I asked about getting a tummy tuck while they are in there...I have had 3 c-sections. 2 with kiddos and one with a tubal ligation. I wish I had known then what I would be going through now. I'm going to ask the head surgeon if they can tuck me as they are going to be there anyhow. I have tons of scar tissue and they have to go in through my abdomen. So, hubby and I think the worst thing they can say is no!

I have been peri-menopausal since I was 36, the day I turned 36 in fact. I'm 37 now...I cannot decide about my ovaries either. They have also said, depending on how they look whether they would take them out...well, I hope so!
