Major setback 5 weeks post op

Exactly 5 weeks post op (TVH) I became very ill with a lot of vaginal drainage (much more than discharge!), my doctor discovered I had a pelvic abscess. I was admitted to the hospital, ended up staying in for one week and I had to have 3 additional surgeries during that one week. I had a vaginal drain placed due to terrible infection, then had a laparoscopy turned into a laparotomy 2 days later for continued pain (I had terrible adhesions...lost my left ovary and appendix), then 3 days later yet another surgery due to a hematoma in my pelvis!! My poor body has been on a roller coaster due to the anesthesia, pain, emotions for the last week. I came home from the hospital yesterday, and I must say that this is all much more painful than my original TVH. I am very discouraged to say the least...now I have a huge swelly belly, and I am moving like a little old lady (that is when I move!) My advice to all...listen to your body!!! I knew something was very wrong because I had severe pain and a temp. of 102 degrees even though I was 5 weeks post op. Please ladies, always report anything unusual to your doctor. I am now faced with probable further adhesions due to the amount of infection in my pelvis, and the number of surgeries that I have undergone.

Worried

I just came down with what I think is a yeast infection. I used monostat for a few days, but now I am so sore and raw in my vagina, inside & out! Did you inaddition to your discharge also have a raw, burning, irritatded feeling? I am wondering now if I have some more than a yeast infection. Can you describe your discharge more?

Mimi

I am so, so sorry you had to endure this dear sister.
I am glad you followed up on your pain - before things got even worse.

I too suffer from adhesions, and I pray that your recovery will be uneventful. Do you subscribe to the adhesions message board?

Go to http://www.adhesions.org
There are many kind folks there who can help, or just listen, if you need it.

God Bless and healing hugs to you.

I am so sorry for what you have had to endure. You are right about listening to our bodies - I wish I had done it years ago - maybe we get used to pain and it becomes 'normal' for us, so that when something else comes along we tend to think it is trivial. I am sending lots of healing thoughts your way - rest up and let us know how you are doing.

Dear Mimi, I have no advice or words of wisdom to offer, just a hug {{{{{{{Mimi}}}}}}. Make sure you do get up and move often, even if it is just to sit on the side of the bed and swing your legs to help keep the blood circulating. You don't want to get a blood clot from inactivity. I hope you will begin to feel better soon. Please keep us posted.
