Is This Due to Weaning off Estradiol? Is This Due to Weaning off Estradiol?

Is This Due to Weaning off Estradiol?

My TAH was in March, initially I was taking Estradiol daily, then every other day, and now once a week. By days 5 and 6 of the second week of weekly doses I started to feel like I was run over by a truck. Absolutely wiped out. Does anyone know if that's a symptom of weaning off estrogen? I've been doing SO well in my recovery, feeling great, full of energy, so this is a real shock.

A secondary question (I know, I need to ask my doctor but ...) now that I'm weekly, will I reduce it any further? And long until I'm off it completely?

Any help or insight would be appreciated :-)

Why are you weaning off hormones so soon? That seems odd to me.

Re: Is This Due to Weaning off Estradiol?

Good question, Kim. I'm not experiencing any of the night sweats, hot flashes or anything at all. I'm 47 and had severe endometriosis, but I didn't ask if that was the reason.

Is feeling like I've been run over by a truck by days 5 and 6 (exhaustion, lethargic) possibly do to the reduced estrodial?

Re: Is This Due to Weaning off Estradiol?

This is unusual, to say the least.

Estradiol doesn't last a week. Drugs usually last the same amount of time it takes to become steady state. So with oral estradiol, once you have it in your system completely, it'd be 3-4 days.

I guess I'm confused why he didn't just lower your dose and stay daily? Estrogen is not all about hot flashes. It affects many different aspects...joints, sleep, moods, memory, digestion, etc.

Re: Is This Due to Weaning off Estradiol?

Thank you 6andcounting. This is all new to me and I appreciate the comprehensive information. Today is day 5 and I'm a teary mess. I now know going 7 days isn't reasonable.

I have no idea why the dose wasn't lowered, but now I'll be able to ask! I appreciate your help!

Re: Is This Due to Weaning off Estradiol?

6andcounting - I wanted to thank you and let you know that I called my doctor's office yesterday and I already feel 100% better.

I was at my lowest point through this entire recovery process. I went online to search for information, and after failing to find anything helpful, I posted my question and your information was exactly what I needed. Thank you for taking the time to answer my question!
