SIS Ultrasound procedure

Age 47. (no children) Have had problems with heavy painful periods for a few years now. 2 years ago was told I had a fibroid that was 4cm and since then a few more have cropped up. Since then it has been getting harder to get up and round and I have to actually lift my right leg manually just to get in the car. Had the SIS (saline infusion sonography) ultrasound procedure done yesterday and found out the one that was 4cm is now 6cm. The dr said that it was about the size of a baseball. He said that it is the cause of the anemia, fatigue and pain I am in. So glad my family dr listened to me and had me referred to an ob/gyn and he listens to me. So he has suggested having the da vinci hysterectomy (leaving my ovaries).
I had already been thinking of possible treatments on my own and am ok with hysterectomy, but know that I am actually leaning toward getting this done. I'm a little nervous. I have never had major surgery before.
It will be a little while before getting it done as me and my sister share an apartment and she has broken her kneecap and I am helping her with that. We are close...and she wants to be able to help me. We have always been there for each other
Will update when I get a surgery date.

Re: SIS Ultrasound procedure

Hi Cynjl to HysterSisters!

I had surgery for a very large grapefruit-sized complex ovarian cyst on my left ovary, plus numerous uterine fibroids. I had no pain, however, and the cyst was discovered as a mass during my annual exam.

Recovery can take some time (think weeks and months, not days), and you will need help at home with dishes, cooking, cleaning, laundry, driving, etc. So having your sister at home is great. But being nervous about surgery is very normal. This is one tough surgery to process.

Continue to do research, and if you wish get a second opinion on your condition. Ask what ever questions you have, and we will try to answer them. We are here to help and support you. Make the decision that is right for you.

(BTW, OW on your sisters broken knee cap! That had to hurt!)

Re: SIS Ultrasound procedure

I had my laproscopic supracervical hysterectomy 5 days ago for a 12cm fibriod. I do not have children either. I'm sore, but nothing unmanageable. I recommend getting another opinion before you make any decisions. If you have any questions feel free to post me.

Re: SIS Ultrasound procedure

Thank you so much for your replies. I actually consider this to be my 2nd opinion as my family doctor originally suggested a hysterectomy after ultrasounds confirmed fibroids before referring me to the gyn.

I was having problems with my previous family doctor not listening to me... so I have been dealing with this for some time and it has been such a great relief having a doctor listen.
