Life begins at 40!

I was told life began at 40 how wrong they were since I was 40 last year I have been diagnosed with osteporosis after a routine X-ray for a pulled muscle and now a hysterectomy due to heavy painful periods. This has been going longr than I care to admit but after admitting to my GP had a scan which revealed huge fibroids they see quite surprised I had not been earlier. Surgery is scheduled for 5th March just one week away. Cannot image how I will feel after surgery apart from a tonsil operation when I was eight and have no hospital treatment since. Getting more nervous by the day keep having dreams where I am in the operating theatre doing the most bizarre things last night I was texted my friends on my mobile how weird is that! Sleep patterns have gone from being a normal 7 hour a night person to 3-4 hours. Is this normal??

Good luck to all those hyster sisters who have there ops before me.

Life begins at 40!

Hi, Jackie,

I think it's normal to be nervous before surgery. I certainly was. I had strange dreams (that's normal for me.)

Hystersisters is a great place to find information, ask questions, and receive support.

Have you looked at the pulldown menus on the Hystersisters home page? I found the answers to some of my questions right there. You'll find information about the recovery period, and how you and others can take care of yourself after the surgery.

Let us know if you have other questions, and good luck with your surgery.

Sending healing hugs,
Helen

I had that trouble sleeping, too.. Talk to the doctor and ask for something to help with that. You don't want to be exhausted before surgery. My dr. gave me Ambien.
It was great!!!

I never had any previous surgery, except tonsils out at 16 (years past when they should have been), either. I was very scared of the unknown. It went fine, though. If you are very nervous before surgery they might give you something to calm you while you wait. They put versed in my I.V. and I was so calm it was unbelievable. Without it I would have been in shock and/ or fainted.
