pending hysterectomy

I am having a hysterectomy on 4/5/02 after two years of suffering back and leg pain, ovarian pain, and abnormal bleeding. I made the decision, along with the help of my doc to take both ovaries. She said she did not want me to suffer any more pain after the surgery so she should go ahead and remove both. I also suffer from menstrual migraines. When we talked about hormones she said all I would need is premarin. Why do doctors think you don't need tetosterone and progesterone any more? I am worried about headaches after the surgery. I still can't believe I am so looking forward to this procedure. Am so grateful for this web site and all who responded before I made this decision. Any info will help...blessings to all. D.

Hi Doreen, First of all, I'm glad you have your date set after 2 years of pain. I know just getting to that point is not an easy decision. I tried every medical procedure making sure I was doing the right thing for 2-3 years. All I really lost were the 2-3 years. All the different procedures out there didn't gain me anything.
I was told I would be put on Prempro immediately after my surgery. That was fine. But as it turned out, I had endo which had gone undiagnosed until surgery. My surgeon told me I had to wait 6 weeks to start on any HRT due to the endo. I had some minor hormone problems during the 6 weeks, but nothing to major. Once I've started on the Prempro, all has been well. My advise to you is to learn all you can prior to your hyst on HRT. Our forum here called The Hormone Jungle, would be a good place to start. Those ladies in there really know their stuff. You could gain some important information that you could talk to your doctor about. Many times, what the doctors start you on for HRT needs to be tweeked and changed several times before you settle on the combination that is right for you. Go and post some threads in the Hormone Jungle about your concern for migraines and see what kind of information you can find there.
Take care and I hope this helps some.
