pathology results?

I had a simple laproscopic hysterectomy (uterus, cervix, left fallopian tube) last Wednesday June 5th. I have a history of AIS and stage four endometriosis.

They ended up taking the fallopian tube due to the severe endo on that side. In any case, my history of AIS is what prompted the hyst. They were going to be doing pathology on all they removed.

I'm going to call tomorrow to follow up (plus make my post-op appointment), but I had my surgery on Wed., June 5th, was released late on Thursday the 6th, and haven't heard anything.

I had surgery at Mass. General Hospital and I know results differ at each place, but for those of you with pathology reports showing cancer, how many days until you found out? Where you back at home by that time? Or, how long in general to hear, either cancer dx or not?

thanks! healing wishes to all!

Re: pathology results?

It took about 6-7 days following the surgery to get the path report confirming that I had fibroids and not cancer.

Hello! I didn't receive my path report for 10 days and then my surgeon called me personally with great news. Hopefully you will find out this week.

Re: pathology results?

I went in for an incision check at 12 days and got my results, which were negative for cancer. The print outs were dated 7-8 days after my surgery. I doubt that my doctor had them much sooner than me because of a holiday weekend. I understand being very anxious to get them!

Re: pathology results?

thanks, all! I've always been under the assumption (wrongfully or not, who knows), that the longer it takes to get news, the more likely it is to be "good" news. I know that's not necessarily a smart adage to stand by, but it's at least been in my experience.

I'll find out soon enough!

Re: pathology results?

I had to wait a week and a half. I almost had my surgery done at MGH, and my initial biopsy results for my first procedure were sent there for a second opinion, which took two weeks total. I had been told before my hysterectomy that it could take a full week or two to hear. Best of luck to you...wishing you good news!
