Not much outside support

I went to the bookstore to find some books on Fibroids and Hysterctomy. I just want to make sure I am fully informed before seeing my DR next week. They only had one book. when I talked to the saleslady to have her look up some stuff, she was basically trying to talk me out of the surgery. I understand how they might feel (I'm only 38 and look younger ) but any of you out there that have been through the constant pain all month long and all the other stuff that goes along with this understand how in a way I am looking forward to the surgery and feeling better. I don't think they understand.

Outside support

Hey There!!

Just know that this is your decision and you don't have to justify it to anyone. I understand what you mean about looking forward to it. I didn't have any drastic problems, just prolapse (4 kids), but I sure was happy when my surgery was over.

Keep your head up and search until you have your answers and go forward with your decision, whatever that may be!

Take care,

Hi, Tricie3,

Everybody's got an opinion. Sometimes their opinion is based on ignorance. I think you're wise to decline medical advice from bookstore employees, strangers you meet on the internet, grocery store clerks, and people whose Aunt Clarinda had a terrible experience.

You are the one who's living with your symptoms, and you're the only person whose opinion matters when it's time to make a decision about your medical treatment. I think a licensed physician is the only person who's qualified to give you medical advice.

I'm glad to hear that you're seeking information, to help you make an informed choice. I'd advise any woman who's considering a hysterectomy to get at least two medical opinions before making a decision.

I'm a Hostess on the Hysterectomy Options and Alternnatives forum here at Hystersisters. Let us know if we can help you find specific information.

Best wishes,
Helen

You should have told her you were amazed that with her medical knowledge she was working in a bookstore instead of a hospital.

So many opinions, from uneducated people

I had the same problem when telling people or trying to find info before my hyst. I had severe varicose veins on my uterus.....kind of rare. I was 31 (7 months ago). People would make that face like "ohhhhhhhh, you are soooooo young". Someone even told me my husband won't "want" me anymore. And finding info was very difficult. The thing that saved me was Hystersisters. Without the wonderful, supportive women on this site, I don't know what I would have done.

Good luck to you and post your questions. There is so much information here.

Too young

By the way, I'm happy to report, my husband still "wants" me.

Hi Tricie

Gosh, I wonder what she would have done if it were me looking for that book.......I am 28 and barely pass for 21. I have had several people comment about my hyst and age also. I totally know what you are going through. These people are insensitive and probably just dont think before they say things like that. I tried everything before my hyst including 3 previous surgeries. It came down to do I want to be in my 20's and feel miserable or do I want to do this surgery. I have 2 children (ages 3 and 21 months) I wanted another but decided I was blessed to have the two so I made the decision to have the surgery. Just keep on doing your research and make the decision thats right for YOU. Dont worry about the opinions of other people. You can find alot of informative links on different post here and tons of hugs and support. God bless and keep us posted on how you are doing.
