Frequent vaginal infections, and UTI's? Stuck in the itchy, burny, dry oasis!

Has anybody else had reoccuring yeast infections and urinary tract infections? I get over one and darn if it isn't back!!!!! I feel like if I sat in a tub of cool water for relief, steam would come up! I've heard about eating the yogurt, but what specific kind? Meanwhile, I need a quick fix!! What's causing it? My says to use over the counter cream, but at this rate I should buy stock in Monistat!!!! Not to mention it's cramping the little bit of sex drive I have left!!

YOUCH!!!

Hi Deem:
I'm so sorry; I had similar issues for several months after my TAH.
I know it's NO fun... Everybody's different; but my doc first had me use prescription meds to clear up the infections, then use Aci-jel for a week(she said to normalize the vaginal ph), then go to Vagifem to address the dryness issue. (I still use the vagifem). I feel much better now that I can sit down & sit still I needed more than OTC meds to break the cycle...Hope your doc will join the effort. And sure hope you feel better SOON!!!

yes, I had this problem with too little estrogen and and wrong (for me) form of estrogen. It is very related. First, clear it up w/ a 7-day treatment from the drug store (no 1 day) and whatever your doctor gives you for bladder. But this is a hormone issue. I've done this 2X already while adjusting to HRT. Best to you! Ann

Yep me too...I still get yeast more often than I'd like but the vagifem has helped a LOT. I only use it once every two weeks though as more than that tends to make me itch again. Uva ursi is a native american plant that you can use (you can buy it in capsule form at most health food stores) and will help with the UTI's...it's a urinary antiseptic and I take them daily to help with kidney stones. Vaginally you can use vinegar and water douches unless you're really sore or cut down there. I got what looked and felt like little paper cuts and WOW did they burn! For them I just use vitamin E oil. I still use that several times per week...just makes things feel better down there. Doesn't stain your panties or anything either. Yogurt is good too...anything with ACTIVE acidophilus in it...or if you don't like yogurt then just buy the acidophilus capsules. I'm still dealing with the whole estrogen issue too...go back next week for hrt levels so I can't help with the sex drive thing as I have none myself! I hope this helps! s

dryness

I've been doing great on Estrace (2mg) - no hot flashes, no brain fog, etc, EXCEPT, I've had a UTI and really bad vaginal dryness - like the SAHARA!!

So I had my postop checkup yesterday and mentioned this to the gyn onc who did my surgery and he said it was very common, and even though I was on the Estrace, it could still be estrogen deficiency, but if this was my only problem, he would prescribe Estrace vaginal cream as a supplement to use a couple times a week. I hope this will help

UTI's are usually a result of an estrogen deficiency in the pelvic region. Even taking estrogen may not help. What I see working in the majority of women is using a compounded vaginal cream called Estriol. Estriol is the weak estrogen that is found in abundance in the pelvic region. I have seen this cream give many women relief from UTI's, vaginal pain, vaginal dryness, and incontinence.

Since your doctor is probably not going to be familar with it, you may want to talk with a compounding pharmacist first, who will be very familiar with it. Go to www.iacprx.org to find that pharmacist.
