pre-op hysterectomy

One week to go....

Thanks so much girls!

Everyone is right about being nervous the week before surgery.
I'm there. I think it is all getting to me as well as my son's foot.
Today I got a call from the dr. and he wants me to take my son to the orthopedic specialist today. I have to go get him at school shortly and off we go. 45 min. trip. I am worried about his foot and want him better b-4 I do this hysterectomy. Can't focus at all until things are good with him. I wore myself out Satuday from trying to get too much done.....am having last period (yeah!) but it is going out like a "lion" instead of a "lamb". Had to take a pain pill and do nothing Sunday. Why do we do this?

I am really serious about calling the dr. to just take both ovaries for sure. I can't go back!

Thanks for the suport, what would I do without all of you?????

I don't know if my last post went through.

Anyway, Thanks so much all of you for putting up with me.

One week to go .....so nervous, trying to get my son's broken
foot taken care of. Office called today and wanted me to take him to an orthopedic dr. this afternoon. I have to leave shortly to get him out of school and drive 45 min. I am so frazzled.
Why does everything happen at once??????????!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi, Cosmocyndi and all other Ladies-in-waiting,

I remember how much information from other women helped me before my surgery. Isn't Hystersisters wonderful?

I do want to urge all of you to check with your doctors before doing anything to your incisions. As with other medical issues, different doctors have very different ideas about incision care. Please ask your doctor how to care for your incision. Don't put anything at all on your incision unless you've discussed it with your own doctor first. We're talking about your health here, and every Hystersister is precious.

Sending healing hugs,
Helen

Vertical Incision

Hi Cosmocyndi,

I have a vertical incision from two prior emergency c-sections 14 and 18 years ago. The incision starts right beneath my belly button and goes all the way down to my pubic bone which is actually below my hairline. For me, tanning has not helped to hide the fact that there is a large scar there but for me it is just not that important anymore as I know it was a medical necessity. There are lots of two piece bathing suits now that have more of a brief top bottom that almost comes up to the belly button.

Make sure you don't do any of the physical activities before you are supposed to. I know for me that definitely had an impact on my incision healing/scar. I had a newborn to take care of each time and stairs to go up and down, etc. I think all that abdominal muscle use made my scar wider than it otherwise would have been.

Best wishes,

Michele

I talked to the girl who used the Vitamin E oil on her incision today and she said it is 45,000 units at least in the oil and came in a small bottle and cost around $7......and that was several years ago. She got clearance from her doc to put it on when she was up and showering. Run this by your doc, so he is aware of what you would like to do. Hope you come to a decision that is comfortable for you on the ovary situation, and hope that you ds is OK. Hang in there!

I hope you are doing well, Cyndi, how many more days?

I didn't have any drainage with my incision. I will be at 2 weeks tomorrow.

I'm with you Michele, at least we know our kiddos are healthy!

Hi everybody!

I'm having a better day today. Wasn't feeling too good Sunday and Monday. Those last darn periods! They know somethings up! lol

I'll be sure to speak with the Dr. about using vit-E and at what point I can tan. If I can't, I'm sure I'll be just fine. I am so pale
from winter...I just know it seems to lift the spirits a bit. I will be sure to keep the lovely incision covered either way.

You all have been so helpful. I really appreciate it. I'm addicted to this site!

I have 6 days to go. Trying to get groceries and such in line. My mom will be coming up and staying the surgery week with me! What a comfort. So glad to have her!

A few of my g.f.'s are taking me out to dinner and to a movie Friday night. I told my hubby Sat. will be our "date"! (We usually have one most weekends. ) That will be nice!!!! When will I ever get the sweeper ran and the beds stripped and washing done this weekend....lol

My hubby finally read the paperwork from the hospital. He just said that he hopes the surgery does what I want it to do. WHAT THE HECK DOES THAT MEAN??!!! Now I am questioning it all like I've read others do. Do I really need this? I want to back out!
Am I crazy? Is it in my head? Etc., etc. OF COURSE NOT! IT IS NECESSARY TO GET BETTER! AND TO QUIT HURTING SO MUCH!
Men just don't understand what we really are going through.

Oh, for those who are interested in my 15 yr. old son. I did get him to the Orthopedic Specialist and the Dr. gave my son a walking cast so thank goodness the crutches have been taken away. Now he can get around so much better and now he can clean his room! lol He is so happy. The crutches made getting around the high school a pain for him as well as off and on the bus.

I have a girl friend who works in a pharmacy and guess what she brought to me today.......a candle....and a Fleet enema! lol She thought it was so funny! lol She knew I was dreading getting that thing! So, her co-workers know that I'm having surgery and the emema was for me!!! They were looking at her strange when she way buying it so she told them. I know the pharmacist and they got a kick out of it. The pharmacist told her to tell me not to worry about the IF both ovaries come out and I have to go on HRT. He said that there is so much to choose from and that I would be just fine! That made me feel better!! SMALL TOWNS!!!!

So glad to hear those of you that are home and just crossed over are doing fine! I'm sure it is such a relief to be on the other side and not with us pre-op girls!!!! What strong women you are!

Thanks for all of your replies! They all help tremendously!

Hanging in there.......

Oh, when I was talking about drainage.....from the vagina....wearing pads.......well, how long? Can't figure it out how much drainage/bleeding there is. Heard it is less now due to modern tools cutting and culterizing at once to lesson bleeding.

When do staples come out? (I think I asked that b-4 but I'm brain dead right now!!

The usual humble thank you.

Hi Cyndi,
My staples came out at 6 days post op. It really was no big deal, not painful except for one staple that pinched a little.

As for drainage ... I had very little at all. I wore a mini-pad for about 5 days and that was it! Amazing, isn't it? Not everyone is this fortunate, but I sure hope you will be.

DOWN TO 2 DAYS .....

Thanks for your replies. It makes me feel so much better to have you all's experiences with me.

I figured the staples would come out in about a week...so your 6 days sounds good to me. Everyone says you can't even tell when they are coming out!!! So, do you have to shower with your back to the water after surgery, or is it covered with something from the hospital to waterproof it?

All these silly questions!
