What's a Bladder Tack Exactly?

It's embarrassing, seeing as how I am a nurse (but in psych and ortho-neuro!!!) but I have no idea what a bladder tack is. An online friend said that when her sister had her hys, she had one and it was great...she said that when she had her own hys, she didn't know in time to ask the dr to do a "bladder tack" and that her bladder "fell into the empty space" and caused problems. She's recommending I ask my dr. to do one when I have my hys on April 2. I figure I'd better know what it is before I go asking for one! Plus, they wouldn't take my appendix during the hys (I asked) so I don't know if they'll do the bladder tack or not. But anyway...what the heck IS a bladder tack???

What's a Bladder Tack Exactly?

Hi Kris,

I can't answer your question in any detail because I didn't have it done, but if you do a search (using the little purple button at the top right of this page) on the term bladder tack, you should find alot of posts discussing it.

Be sure to mention it to your doctor and ask him whether it is something that he would recommend for you. Each woman is different, and please remember that what one woman needed is not necessarily what you will need.

Please let us know what you find out.

What's a Bladder Tack Exactly?

Hi Kris!

I had a Burch repair along with my TAH. This is where the Dr. takes the neck of the bladder and pulls it up and permanently "tacks" it to the pelvic bone or other muscle.
It is done for stress incontinence patients. So far, mine has worked.

Best of luck to you !
