tummy binder!!

Hi ,
I had my surgery 3/7 & they put a tummy or abdominal binder on after surgery (SAH). Did anyone else have one of these. I forgot to ask how long I had to wear it. It's getting uncomfortable as it rides up & irritates the staples. I know I have to ask the dr. but justed wanted some ideas from others. Thanks, Barb

tummy binder!!

Hi Barb!

I did not have a tummy binder, but I know many ladies have. I would hope that the DR would not make you keep it on if it is causing discomfort, as the whole idea behind it is to add comfort by keeping things still.

Perhaps there will be another tummy binder gal along to share her insight and share what was told by the DR.

HUGS,

They placed a large sanitary napkin around my mid section in the hospital

Hi, I am sorry that your binding bothers you. When I did not have anything against my incision that bothered me and then at the hospital they placed an extra large sanitary napkin around my mid-section and it felt like it was holding everything together. Your tummy binder will probably feel much better when they remove your staples. It could be tugging on the staples right now. I wish the best for you.

tummy binder!!

Hi Babsmv ,

I was given a binder when I was in the castle and sent home with it (single patient use). But, I wasn't instructed to wear it at home. I was advised that I could use it when I was walking for support if it helped, and that I didn't have to wear it when I was resting. It bothered me too, so I didn't use it at all once home.

Please call your Dr. this morning. I have a feeling that you don't need to wear yours either since it is bothering you.

Best wishes and s

tummy binder!!

They put an abdominal binder on me in the recovery room, immediately after my surgery. It did not bother my incision, but I thought they had it on too tight as it kept curling up and wanting to ride up (but that could be because my behind is m-u-c-h larger than my waist. They had me wear it all the time in the castle, and it was one thing I checked on when I went to Dr for a one week check. He told me it was up to me if I wanted to wear it or not, it was just for extra support. By that time, I had loosened it up so it was not quite so tight, and it quit curling.

During the first week I wore it most of the time, particularly when I was up, but I took it off when I took an afternoon nap. It seemed to help when I was up and about, and I just can't imagine having been without it during the first few days.

tummy binder!!

Yes, I was a tummy binder gal. However, I only had mine on the first day after my surgery. The nurse in the castle took it off when it started riding up on me. My doctor also took my staples out the day I left the hospital (in on a Tue and out on a Thu), covered them with steri-strips and sent me on my way. I was advised to peel the strips off in 5-7 days. I followed the orders and I am now at the 4wk post op mark and my incision looks absolutely fabulous! I would think if it is riding up on you, it isn't doing the job anyway. ~ Kim

Tummy binder

Hi,
I have a tummy binder too. I think it has been a lifesaver for me. I had my hyst last week and I got rid of my binder a couple of days ago. I only needed it when I got up to walk... but my staples were taken out before I left the castle....I bet that's why yours is uncomfortable. I think I would check with the dr about it. My dr didn't specify how long to wear it...just if I felt that I needed it. Hope you feel better!

tummy binder!!

this post is perfect timing for me - after reading pre-posts, I asked for, and finally got, a binder - but was so swollen in the hosp, couldn't see it doing much good (had 6.5 " of staples removed today, out-pt, 1 week after sx) and did get steri -strips, with no instructions on what to do with them(but I had a zillion questions, that mostly got answered--so does the binder help when taking post-op walks, ie outside for 15 minutes?
