Ovarian cyst ?

Hi. I'm scheduled for a hysterectomy in early April and they saw an ovarian cyst in my last ultrasound that they are going to check out. My Dr. said she'd do everything possible to "save the ovary" (possibly draining the cyst - if it was still there).

I've never had a cyst before and just spent the first 3 days of this period in extreme pain on and off (Alleve and lying on my stomache make the pain go away after an hour or so). The Dr. says the pain is most probably from the cyst and to call again if the pain does not go away. She said many times the cyst will go once my cycle is under way.

Those of you with ovarian cyst experience - is this what happens? Do they keep coming back? Yikes! I'd rather get rid of the ovary than have this pain again.

Ovarian cyst ?

Hi there! I was a frequent sufferer from ovarian cysts. Cysts will come and go. Each month, a cyst is formed when the egg is released, if it doesn't disolve on its own after the eggs released, that when the cysts can cause problems, such as you are experiencing.

Best Wishes!

Ovarian cyst ?

Hi Moco,

I know ovarian cysts can be very painful because my daughter has had them occassionally, but you might want to talk to your doctor about what you can do to ease the pain if your cyst comes back so that you could keep your ovary because of the hormones that it will still produce after your hyst. It sounds as if your doctor would prefer to save the ovary.

I also quickly did a search (pressed the little purple button at the top right of this page) on the term ovarian cyst and found links to lots of threads that talk about them.

Here's one thread that seemed to have several replies:
