is there any reason to continue to see a gyn each year if you have had a complete hyst. What is left to examine? i have heard different things regarding this. my dr. said to come back in 1 yr. What do they do then?

annual gyn exams

Yes, lucki, you should still go back for a yearly exam. The doctor will probably check your breasts and just do an exam to check for any other abnormalities. Vulvar cancer is rare but it can still happen. I was told if I have no obvious problems, my doctor would do a pap maybe once every 10 years. Of course every doctor is different but I would still go for the check-up if I were you. Take care.........

annual gyn exams

My doc insists on annual exams. Even tho the cervix has been removed, most docs will do a swab of the vagina to check for abnormal cells. He will do the breast exam and review my HRT plan. Look at it this way, you can make an appt that is convenient for you and no longer planning around those periods! I can't tell you how many appts I had to cancel because of irregular periods. We may have new found freedom, but this is one thing we need to keep on our calendars. And don't forget to continue our own monthly breast self exams!
