Six Weeks Today!

Wow, I cannot believe I am six weeks post op today. The time flew by! I had a TAH/BSO on Feb. 1. Thankfully I had no complications following the surgery. Cathetar came out day after surgery and I was able to urinate on my own. I walked pretty well on second day. Had a little nausea but no vomiting. Pain was well managed. I did run a temp and that kept me in the hospital an extra day.

Make no mistake about it, the day after surgery was really tough. I was totally miserable, so uncomfortable. I know a lot of ladies say the waiting is the hardest. Well, for me the first day after surgery was the hardest. I cannot believe how some women have to go home the day after. No way, no how would I have been able to go home that soon.

I was one of those who hit the "three week wall." I was really afraid I would never feel like myself again. Even sitting was so hard. And the gas! I couldn't even bear to look at my incision. Finally one day I got a mirror and really examined it and found it was not as bad looking as I thought.

Finally at four weeks I started to really see some improvement. I go back to work next week and am happy to be re-entering the real world. I will look back on this time in a positive way though. This was the first time in my life that I have been able to be completely selfish and focused on myself and getting better. It was so weird to have NO place to go and nothing to have to do. So nice but not realistic long term!

This site has been so helpful to me. Doctors and nurses will answer your questions, but the catch is you have to know WHAT questions to ask. I received more helpful information from this site than any doctor or nurse I talked to.

Thanks so much to everyone and best of luck to you all!
