Stop taking my multivitamin ot not?

Can ya'll tell me if I should stop taking my multivitamin? I keep hearing different things about it.. It has iron in it, which I am supposed to take everyday per dr's orders, but it is also a complete *antioxidant* multivit, too. Has everything from A-Z Anyways, I have been taking them for months and have felt great because of them, but now I'm not sure about continuing on with them prior to surgery. I don't see how they would hurt me, but I'm clueless.... Can someone explain this to me? I *was* taking a baby aspirin everyday, too, but did stop taking that a few days ago.. Is that safe to take after surgery? I thought it might be good for blood clots an stuff... Thanks

Stop taking my multivitamin ot not?

Call your doc or the nurse and ask about the multi-vitamin. As far as aspirin products go.. that's a for 2 weeks prior to any surgery and 2 weeks afterwards. Reason being: it can prolong bleeding.

Wish you all the best! Please come and post your story when you feel up to it.

Stop taking my multivitamin ot not?

Julie, Please call your doctor and tell him what Vitamin you are taking. Then ask his opinion as to whether or not you can continue to take them pre-surgically. Many vitamins over the counter are multi-vitamins and may contain vitamins which can help or hinder blood clotting along with other things. It is so important that you speak to your doctor and let him know in advance what type of vitamins and supplements you are taking.

Remember, your doctor is there to help you and care for you. You need to let him know ahead of time, what kinds of drugs, vitamins and/or minerals you are taking. Many drugs can interact with prescription medication.

Please keep us posted on how you are doing and let us know how your surgery went...

All the best,
Rita

Same date!

Hi dear...we have the same surgery date! I'll be thinking of you.

My dr. said I had to stop taking my vitamin E after the 15th; she says that also prevents clotting and increases blood loss.

That's about all I know...now I'm concerned about the garlic thing because I love it and eat it on almost everything! (not cereal or ice cream, but everything else!)

Good luck with the waiting...it really is the hardest part.
