Pre Op Jitters

Hi everyone. Im new to your room and scared to death. Im scheduled for a hysterectomy on April 9. I not sure which one, it's still all a blur. I have endometriosis and have been in pain since October. Any tips on on the pre op jitters would be greatly appreciated.

Pre Op Jitters

Hi tburk, Welcome to the Hyster Sisters. You might find many of your questions answered here in the pre-op boards. Just keep reading. In the meantime, read the pull down menus at the top of the page. There are articles there on Ladies in Waiting that you might find helpful. These are found in the pull down menus under Hyster Sisters Home, then look toward the bottom of the page. Hope this helps get you started. Read the posts or post questions yourself in the pre-op area. Then after your surgery, come and visit us in post op. Take care!

Pre Op Jitters

Hi There!

Welcome to Hystersisters! We're so glad you've found us!

Having these jitters before surgery is very common in these parts! I know I was very nervous - well, I guess it was more - oh, what's the word? Petrified! Yes, that's the one!

I had a very difficult time focusing on anything - this is a major surgery, a major life event, in my book. Just know there is alot of support around here, and all of these wonderful ladies here to offer hugs and warmth.

We also have a chat room with terrific ladies who you can chat with real time! Please jump right in and allow them to welcome you with open arms, just as we do on the boards.

Stick around; we will be here for you throughout your journey!

s,

Pre Op Jitters

Hi tburk,
So glad you found us ... looks like your post was in Post Op forum originally, but was moved here to Pre Op.

Yes, pre op jitters are rough. As for advice on how to deal with them, for me it was best to keep busy and try to stay positive about the outcome. I had stage 4 endo too and was suffering a lot prior to my surgery, so life didn't have much joy at that point. I also needed to talk about my upcoming surgery ... I'm the type of person who just needs to "get it out." Luckily, my DH was always there to listen and hystersisters was too. If you have friends who are supportive and willing to listen to all your fears and concerns, confide in them and let them help you. Another thing that helped me was writing in a journal about all my feelings, the good, the bad, the fears, etc. Again, it was cathartic for me just to "get it out" and expressed.

Good luck! Hang in there over these next few weeks.

Pre Op Jitters

You've already gotten good advice from Toonces and Nancy - just wanted to chime in to tell you you're not alone, and that being scared is very very normal! For me, knowing that helped a little.

Getting information will help some. Ask questions here and of your doctor, read lots, and hang in there - the support on this board is outstanding, and everyone here will do all they can to help.
