Stitches not staples?

Hi... I had to fill out papers at my dr office last week and we were discussing different things that I had thought of and I asked if I would have staples or stitches and he said that he was going to do some type of stitches which are internal and will not have to be removed they will desolve. I have heard alot of you talk about having staples and he said staples weren't necessary for me. I weigh about 112 lbs so have any of you had stitches instead? And does weight have anything to do with it? I feel like this may be a crazy question but I am curious.

No staples here either

Rox

I am a big lady and had surgery in December. I had a bikini line incision. I got a very pleasant surprise to find out I didn't have any staples or external stitches. All were internal. They put steristrips on the outside and I just had to leave these until they fell off of their own accord. This took around 2 weeks. In that time I was able to shower and get them wet, no problems whatsoever. I had no problems with the incision at all.

The only thing a few of the ladies have had trouble with is being allergic to the steristrips adhesive. If you have allergies or think you may, it may be worth discussing with dr as I know there is alternatives that can be used.

The internal stitches do melt on their own, however it does take time, so you have to remember even if you are feeling well and can't see any external stitches, there is a lot of internal stitches and you still have to take it easy.

Hope this has helped.

Regards and all the best for your surgery.

Stitches not staples?

Hi, Rox -

I suspect it has more to do with the surgeon's way of working. I'm not real big (anymore :-)) and I had staples that stayed there for 2 days.

We all, of course have internal stitches as well where they removed/moved things, as Gail mentioned.

And don't worry about questions sounding crazy - ask away!

I had...

Hi there rox

I only had Steri Strips. Little tape things that i removed myself about 10 days postop at home. My Dr also told me no staples. He tries to aviod them. He did a wonderful job and i can barly even see my scar. Its a very light pink and looks like a clean cut.

I am 40lbs over weight. I am not sure how weight factors in if at all...

No question is to odd or crazy here

Take care and be well
