Weaning off HRT

I never wanted to take any HRT, but my doctor convinced me to use it for six months after my TAH to protect my bones. It's been three and a half months since my surgery and I'm still bound and determined to get off this stuff (Vivelle Dot .1 and Estratest HS) in June when I'm six months post-op.
Did anyone else do this? What should I expect? Do I "cold turkey" or back off the HRT as you do with steroids? Thanks!

Weaning off HRT

Hi Celeste, little over a year after my surgery I went off my HRT (under Dr.s supervision). I went cold turkey and did not have a lot of symptoms. However I am not sure about the estratest. It is snythetic so may take longer to leave your body. Maybe to lessen the symptoms you should try to cut your dose over a few days. I was off for several months but eventually had such bad brain fog and the blues I started again.

Why are you wanting to go off HRT? Be sure to keep tabs of your bone health. My Dr immediately sent me for a bone scan when I went off and wanted me to supplement with calcium and use black cohosh. You may want to read up on supplements that would be good to take and talk to your Dr. Good luck.
