Shot after surgery

Hi there hystersisters! My TAH/BSO is re-scheduled for 7/10, and when I asked my OB/GYN about hormones, he said he would be giving me a shot (of what??) postop, which would "get me through the first few weeks." When I asked him about continuing HRT, he said he would be putting me on oral hormones (again, which ones??) and left it at that. He's always in such a rush when I'm there I feel like I have to talk like an auctioneer otherwise he'll walk out before I get it all out of my mouth. In any case, he comes highly recommended by other women who've had the same surgery, but I'm feeling that I'll have to go to someone else for follow-up HRT.

Any comments? I don't know what "shot" he's giving me, nor do I know what pills he'll be prescribing, either.

Thanks for all your information, help, support and just for being there!

Shot after surgery

My surgeon did a great job and I had no complications,
But I can't warm up to him, I consider him a surgeon
not a doctor, if that makes any sense. My family doctor
retired and I had my records sent to one of the doctors on the list my old doc gave me, I called before I sent the
records over and asked if he did HRT and she said yes.
I had my surgury in Sept and had a 4 week check up and a 6
month check up. I'm supposed to go back in Oct for another
6 month check up and pap smear. Why the pap smear a year after surgury? When I was in at 6 month I told him I was having jitters and anxiety, I asked him for something for anxiety but he wouldn't give me anything, just told me to increase my estrogyn. So my family doc put me on xanax low
dose. I'm thinking my GYN is a good surgeon but not much
of a HRT guy, he hasn't tested my levels since my hysto
and he still told me to increase estrogyn. He always take time and will come to the phone when I call, keeps telling
me anxiety, mood swings and depression are normal after
surgury but doesn't offer to do anything about it. Although
I have had him let me play with dosage and combos of estrace
all different stregnth, estratest and vivelle dot ect.

About anxiety--progesterone and Xanax use the same receptors in the brain, so trying some progesterone might be worth a shot.

Trish, I tried progestrone but got joint and muscle aches
even though I lowered my estrogyn when I used it. My surgeons nurse told me I had to be off HRT for 10 days
to get my levels checked, I never heard of this, did you?
How would they know how you were responding to your treatment if you went off it?

Nope, that's a new one around here. 10 days is enough to make you feel miserable and not enough to clear everything out of your system. I would think the point would be where to go from here with your treatment, so taking the saliva test as you are now seems to make sense.
