Simple question for post op sisters

Surgery is 4-16 pre-op is 4-11. Impatient as I am though, I would really like to know now, what is the average hospital stay? I know someone who went in one day and was out the next. That seems a little to soon to me. I would rather be there a little longer to make sure everything is going as it should. As nervous as I am anyway the thought of being released to soon is terrifying to me.

There is no simple answer...

It depends on what type of surgery-most abdominal hystersisters seem to have stayed an average of 3- 4 nights. I was in for 4 nights, but the girl down the hall had a LAVH and was out 36 hours.

Don't worry-they won't make you leave before you've passed the checklist!

Best of luck to you! Speedy recovery!!

TAH-BSO - I had surgery Monday morning, was officially released late Wednesday morning (decided to stay for lunch...hee hee, so left early afternoon.

As Kathy says, they will not let you leave till you're physically ready. And they literally DO have a checklist.

Simple question for post op sisters

Hi, Irae,

I remember from another one of your posts that you are having a vaginal hyst, which is what I had. I went in at 6:30 one morning and was back home by mid-afternoon the next day.

Since a vaginal hyst does not involve an abdominal incision, the time in the hospital isn't normally quite as long as for an abdominal hyst. But since everyone is different, please be sure to call your doctor's office and ask them how long he likes his patients to be in the hospital after a TVH.

Also be sure that they know that you are concerned about coming home too soon. (Although I have to say, I was more than ready to get out of there - I wanted the peace and quiet of my own home).

Please let us know what your doctor tells you.

(((((Irae)))))

I had a TAH on a Thursday in the morning, I was in my room by around 12:30-1:00. I was discharged the following Saturday morning...if I had it my way, I would have liked to have come home Friday (the roommate I had wasn't too friendly and SNORED louder then DH! ), but my GYN wanted me there for one full day.

It really depends on the procedure you are having done. If bladder work is involved, it may be a longer stay.

Kathy and Alisa are both right, they won't send you home if you are not ready. Keep thinking positive thoughts Irae and know that your sisters will be holding your hand all the way through.

Love & Hugs,

Release

Had TVH on Tuesday morning at 7:30, released noon-ish on Thursday. I think each Dr. has their own timing! There are certain things they will check and double check, so try not to worry about being released too soon! I was told if I had a temperature or anything else out of norm, would be kept another day. I was SOOOO glad to get home to my own bed...you will be too! Good luck!

Simple question for post op sisters

I had a TVH the morning of 3/26 and was released around 9:30 the next morning. I thought that sounded fast going in, but I was more than ready to come sleep in my own bed when the time came. They removed the catheter around 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday and had me up and down all night, so by Wednesday morning I wanted to come home more than anything in the whole world!

Hospital stay

Hi Irae,

I am going in on Monday the 8th for an SAH/BSO and doctor says I will be released on Wednesday morning. I asked her to keep me longer and she said unless there is a medical problem she can't keep me cause of the insurance companies require a reason. Hope that helps you out. Good luck................Paula
