This is a great website. I just found out I have to have a tah on april 15. I have a uterine fibroid almost the same size as my uterous. What is the best things to stock up on before surgery other than large gowns?? Any other hints would be greatly appreciated.

Scared but also want to end pain of 2 yrs.

Hey Lady

At the top of the pre-op forum is a post of a list that will tell you almost every thing you need and then just read to find out the little things that the LIST don't cover. Reading the post even past ones is so much help. There are things on there that each new has found out that someone else didn't know. So read, read, and read somemore. God Bless.

Don't laugh, but the best thing I did was buy paper plates and plastic cups! Throw everything away and don't have to worry about thoses dishes in the sink that DH & DS would have let mold over ! Also bought a couple of the casual soft knit slacks and loose tops that I have enjoyed....sometimes I want to get out of the gowns or jammies (especially if company stops by) and these are loose and comfortable! Don't know what your appetite will be like, but jello and the fruit popcicles are WONDERFUL on a sore throat (from breathing tube)...hope this helps and good luck!

Juice, especially Cranberry and orange (for Vit C)
A shower stool
Thank you cards
a body pillow (highly recommended)
heating pad with 2 hr auto cutoff
stool softener (not one with a laxative)
Plenty of no-preparation foods on hand, like fruit, soup, cereal, snack bars, etc.
a couple of pairs of 'light support' panties (Haines Her Way)

For at least two weeks you probably won't feel like reading, but after that daytime tv gets pretty boring, so books, videos, crafts, hobby supplies, the internet

Mary Lou's list is great. I would add:

A "Grabber" from the pharmacy or hospital supply to pick up the things you drop or to reach things from high shelves.
A Hospital Bed Table can be rented to. Or have a TV tray or something close by your bed and or couch. Have everything on it you need so you don't have to reach alot. (Kleenex, water, pain meds, phone etc.)
Baby Wipes were nice to do a little clean up between showers.
Pads and Panty Liners in different sizes. We're all different but I needed them. I'm down to about 2 panty liners a day now.
Don't forget the Gas-X.
Some prunes or dried apricots are helpful to keep things moving until you are ready for salads.
Good luck and keep us posted.

Thanks for all the help, I went and bought 3 very large cotton gowns. Will look for a breakfast tray and bed pillow that you sit up with. All of you are such a GOD send at a time when the fear sits in. Knowledge and things to do definately help.
