Large tummy at 9 weeks post op

Hello all. I am at 9+ weeks recovering from SAH, LSO and my abdomen is as large at times as when I had my uterus. I have heard a term called swelly belly but havnt found any posts. I came across posts regarding seroma. I don't have an opening as my incision has healed completely but have scared myself a little thinking it could be happening inside with no place to drain.

Another thing I was thinking is that since my surgery I havn't had any excersise - could that along with being cut stem to stern cause my muscles to be completely out of commission?

I am still having trouble with my bowels. They are having a heck of a time becoming regular, oh, lets forget regular - they are having a hard time just going at all! And I am drinking more water now than I ever did in the past.

I guess I am just a little discouraged. Clothes that I thought I would get into this year once I had my surgery are STILL sitting in my closet.

When did any of you start an ab program. I did 19 sit ups last night and feel ok today - just a little twingy in spots. I didnt want to overdue it, but good grief, I want to put a skirt on! I have been living in gym pants and jersey knits for months and months!

Sorry to go on, will appreciate any and all feedback.

Sincerely,
Lily

Large tummy at 9 weeks post op

5 weeks post-op can`t wear half my pants . The ones I can wear -only a few can I button top button.
I started the excercises shown on the scroll down menu at 2 weeks post that and trying to walk when I can.
Walking helps your Bowels wake up - try prune juice I read warm is better. My doctor told me to take 2 stool softners without laxatives or metamucil or fibercon to help.
Good luck Paula

Large tummy at 9 weeks post op

Hi Lillienne. My dr gave me a go-ahead to do abdominal exercises at 6 weeks, but it's probably very personal as to how you're healing inside. If you did 19 sit-ups yesterday, & it didn't bother you then or today, then it's probably okay. Be careful though. Like Lucy2, I started doing the exercises on the pull-down menu (except for the ab exercises) earlier. Also, as long as I had time off from work, I started walking twice a day & have built up to 1-2 miles per walk. I think that walking may have helped me the most, for physical strength & stamina, & bowel regularity. Re the latter, I also ate a high-fiber breakfast cereal, adding additional bran. I still do, & am also eating a prune or 2 along with that. (I didn't realize I wasn't very regular before, until I got regular after surgery.)

For a while I tried a concoction I read about here: Mix 1 cup All Bran cereal (in the form of little stick shapes), 1 cup apple sauce, & 1 cup prune juice. Let sit overnight. The next day it will have all merged together & taste pretty good. I can't remember if I ate 1/4 of that mix at a time or more. It was good.

You can also ask your dr about large abdomen, exercise, ab exercise, getting those bowels regular, etc.

Large tummy at 9 weeks post op

I too am discouraged with my large stomach. I am 7 weeks today post op and I too had a SAH/BSO. I gained 5 lbs since my surgery and by the end of the day I feel bloated and my stomach has an overhang of skin right above the incesion. Looks bizarre. Do you have that? Wonder when that goes down.
Yesterday I tried to do situps, it didn't hurt so maybe I will do 30 today and work my way up. I have to lose some of this weight, I can't stand myself fat! Let me know if you have an overhang. I am still numb from the navel down about 3".
