Stairs and Bath

Hi thanks for all the replies to my last post. I have another question. I have read about no stairs and not having a bath, but I live on the 3rd and 4th floor and only have a bath. Any suggestions to make things easier when I come home.

Stairs and Bath

Oh oh Vicky.....hmmm, the only thing I can think of, and I don't know if you have the same thing available to you where you live, is an attachment for your bath that hooks on to the faucet and is a shower head. I'm almost POSITIVE you are not suppose to take a bath. I don't know what else to suggest!

Stairs and Bath

Hi Vicky!
Yes, there are attachments you can put on your bath faucet so you can take a shower in your tub. Are you going to need to use those stairs? If you do, take them slooooowww and try to limit their use to once a day. I didn't even leave my house for a week, so stairs weren't really a problem. If you need the stairs for going from room to room, you may want to consider re arranging your space temporarily to reduce the need to use stairs. Hope this helps...good luck to you!

Ask your Doctor

Hi. I am 2 weeks post op, and while I had to wait for 6 weeks before I could take a bath with my c-Section, my doc told me that with the hyst I was allowed to take baths, so longs as I was not in there long and the water was just above my legs. The stairs were a no-no unless I absolutely had to use them, and if so, I had to take them putting both feet on each step before going to the next one - very slow moving.

Each doctor will tell you something different on the bath issue, so please discuss it with him/her. The stairs will also be something you'll want to discuss, but I would think as long as you only take them when you have to and do it slowly, that it would be ok.

Good luck!

Stairs and Bath

Hi Vicky,

Every DR seems to have different post op rules and instructions. Mine were -
Ambulation: no restrictions
Lifting: limited to arm lift only, no use of abdominal muscles
Driving: 2 weeks
Work: 6 weeks
Sex: 6 weeks
No bath: 6 weeks
Shower: yes, not necessary to cover incision

There are bath towelettes that might help somewhat if you can't take a bath or shower. Dry shampoo too.

I wasn't restricted on the stairs, but the first couple of weeks I only went up at night and down in the morning, and just when someone was home, in case I needed help.
