Surgery has been booked

I want to thank everyone for replying to my previous post. In the last 2 days, I have had extreme pain on my right side of the ovary. The cyst is definitely bothering me. The bleeding is slowing down, however I saw the doctor today and he suggested that I no longer wait.

I was put on the Urgent Waiting List and he told me today that the surgery will take place on April 11th, just next week. I was shocked because I didn't think I would get in so quickly. Also, I'm having a hard time accepting a hysterectomy. I'm very nervous about the surgery. I'm worried about my anemia and discussed this with the doctor. He reassured me that if required, they will give me more blood.

Financially, the time off work will also be a strain. My health benefits do not cover short term illness, only long term. I had to apply for "sick benefits" which kick in 2 weeks after the surgery at only 55% of my weekly salary. As a single mom of a 13 year old boy, I am overwhelmed by all this and don't know how I'm going to be able to afford being off work for 6 weeks. I may have to borrow from my credit card, which is something I don't want to do but I don't have any other options.

I've been reading some posts and it has offered me some encouragement about going through the hysterectomy. I hope that I too can recovery quickly.

Surgery has been booked

Hi, Rosie,

I'm sorry you're going to have all of these complications along with your surgery. :hair:

Here's a suggestion. When my dad was off due to a heart attack a few years ago, his salary stopped completely after his sick leave ran out. We helped as much as we could, but our own financial condition wasn't great.

We found out that our small town's community center helped people in need. They do the usual stuff like food and clothes which he didn't need. But they also did things like pay one month of rent, one month of electricity, and other things. Contact the United Way, Red Cross, or your community service center.

Hope this helps,

Debbie

Hi Rosie

Good luck to you next week.
Please do check out some of the wonderful advice from Debbie.
I know you are in Canada and I am not familiar with the aid available there. But here you could receive aid from the government ,because you have a dependent child, in the form of money and food assist. Also do you have country or province funded short term disability insurance? Sometimes there is alot available we are not aware of. Make a few phone calls.
I know it is hard sometimes to ask for help. But there are times when you really need it and this is one of those times. It will help your son tremendously too if he knows you are not too stressed out about getting by.
Church groups are very helpful too. Ask around. You don't necessarily need to be a member to receive the caring many are happy to give.
Let us know how it goes, okay.
