Donut Pillows

Okay, here's another silly question. (I told you I was full of them!)

I've seen donut pillows mentioned here in several posts. Are these useful just with a vaginal hysterectomy, or would I need one if I'm having an abdominal hysterectomy?

Also with a tummy pillow, what's a good size? I bought material and stuffing and plan to make my own, but I'm not sure how large or small to make it.

Thanks! (I know I'm asking about mundane stuff. Just trying to keep my mind off the scary stuff!)

Donut Pillows

Hi, Shashi,

The ladies who really like the donut pillows are the ones who have had anterior/posterior repairs, which involves having an episiotomy. I had a TVH, and never felt the need for a donut pillow.

I didn't need a tummy pillow, either, but I'm sure someone will come along to answer questions about tummy pillows.

Best wishes,

tummy pillow

I have yet to schedule my hysterectomy but from past experience the only reason for a tummy pillow is the coughing that you do if you have a general anesestic. This is even worse if you'll be having TAH. Pressing the pillow against your tummy when you cough or roll or move at first does help some, I've had 3 laps and and c-section and used one each time. A little firm is good but you want it soft enough to be a good cushion (try to figure that out! Good luck to you. Kathy
