What to wear...how to sleep??

I am full of questions today just thinking about this surgery.
What did you wear in the hospital, ie gown, pj (pants and top). I was thinking I should wear something that makes easier for me to get around in the bed (not that I will be moving around that much) but don't want pj's to get in the way of the troublesome mobilitiy I may have.

Also one more thing....did you wear boxer type pants at home while recovering and then some type of track pants to go outside during swelly belly and recovery time!!

Thanks you are all such a great help!

If you get gowns, make sure they are not long as they will wrap around your legs and make it very difficult to move. Short ones are good.

I loved my casual button-down the front dress while I was recovering. Nothing around the waist was really nice. If you opt for pants, be sure to allow for the swelly belly.

I'm off to try to answer your other Question.

What to wear...how to sleep??

I found a long tee shirt/nightshirt (knee length) the most convenient thing to wear post op - anything with pants can be difficult to get on and off and awkward with the catheter.

You won't need much in the castle, some women opt to wear the gown provided, I found it uncomfortable and changed into my own clothes the day post op.

I've been wearing sweat pants around the house for the past two weeks. I did not buy any large size underpants and have found my regular ones to be comfortable. My incision is very low and I've found that neither my pants or undies seem to cause irritation. I can also fit into my larger size pants without problem which I found somewhat surprising.

Hope this helps and all the best with your surgery.

Since the hospital supplies them that's what I wore while I was there. I let them do the laundry and it made less for me to have to carry back and forth. You'll probably have a catheter and iv for about 24 hours after surgery, so you'll need to keep the hospital gown on tht long anyway. After that it's usually only 24 hours til discharge. My hosp also supplied a robe, I needed my own slippers.

For home, if you wear a gown you'll want a short one that won't twist around your legs, or elastic waist pj's. I had a bikini incision so the elastic didn't rub it. Some sisters say they needed drawstring type.

It may depend on what type of surgery, if it is TAH, maybe a gown, that is what I learned when I had my c-section it was easier to lift up when they checked the incision. Plus the gown doesn't aggravate the incision as much either. At least in the hospital.

Hey a Brainstorm, we need to design some hysterectomy clothes!

Hi! The HysterSisters "Store" sells a coverup and t-shirts! If you have swelly belly, you'll want loose-fitting elastic waisted pants or dresses. Some women buy maternity panties, since those seem to fit a little better than buying extra large regular ones.
Best wishes!
