Staples, Sutures, or Glue Oh My!

I will be having a TAV on 6/21 and would like opinions on the surgery close methods. PROS and CONS welcome. When my dr said staples I almost fell on the floor...seemed very archaic. I know someone who had glue. I had staples once before and I really had a bad time with them. I had a C-Section and had dissolving stitches but dr mentioned having sutures removed in a week. Does it depend on the dr or can a person request options not offered? Thank you all for your honesty, this website is wonderful and you all are great.

Staples, Sutures, or Glue Oh My!

Maybe it does depend on the doctor or your insurance too? I didn't have staples for all the surgeries. I had staples for the horizontal ones. Dissolving stiches for the verticals. I had 2 c-sections and one tubal along with the hyster.

Ask him, can't hurt, and the worst he can say is staples! I know I healed tons better after they were removed, I felt normal again. Longest 4 days of my life!

Staples, Sutures, or Glue Oh My!

I had staples and they didn't bother me in the least. The wound is healing better than other incisions I have had with fancy wound closures. There was absolutely no discomfort when they came out and I am the world's biggest wimp!

Normally my surgeon does a fancy closure with dissolvable stitches, she used staples because I was oozing and she was concerned it might produce a lot of bruising. Insurance is not the reason most docs choose their closure, personal preference and clinical situation are the determining factors.

Don't agonise over it - you'll find all these concerns trivial after the surgery is over, the wait and worry are the worst. Believe me, if this wimp can do well anyone can!!

Hang in there!!

Staples, Sutures, or Glue Oh My!

Hi...I am having my SAH BSO on April 26th and I asked my doctor whether I was having staples or sutures. He told me he would be stitching me. I've had both with my c-sections and asked so I would know what to expect. Personally I liked the stitches better but I know someone who really liked the staples better. If you have questions and concerns about this I would definitely talk to my doctor. Best of luck on your upcoming surgery....Debbie

I think it does depend on the dr., I had glue and absolutely loved it. There was not itching or any going back to get anything taken out. I guess it wouldn't hurt to ask him for whatever you prefer.

Best wishes
