d&c before TAH

I hope someone has been through a similiar experience as mine and can give me advice. I have suffered for years from heavy bleeding which has now turned into continual bleeding. Not too much pain but I feel horrible. Turns out I am anemic which explains why I am always tired. I had a d&c with hysterscopy last Wed. Dr. says my uterus was so enlarged he could not see everything but could feel fibroids. Uterus is 12 wk. size. I am still bleeding pretty heavy. Is this normal? Surgery is scheduled for 5/14. Dr. is also recommending removing my ovaries. I will turn 45 in August and have already experienced hot flashes. I am also suffering from restless leg syndrome. Has anyone been through any of this? It consumes my mind now pretty much 24 hrs. a day.

I had a D&C and endometrial ablation prior to my hyst. That only controlled the bleeding for 2 days! My uterus was 3 times normal size, had fibroids and extensive adenomyosis, which are conditions that do not usually respond to the D&C and ablation. I too was anemic from bleeding so much. Life is so much better after the hyst; I was so run down from bleeding that I didn't realize until after my surgery how much I was struggling to get through everyday. I did not have restless leg syndrome so I can't address that. I did have my ovaries removed, was peri menopausal anyway and decided to "clean house" while in surgery! Ovary removal is a very personal choice, please explore the posts here if you are concerned about your decision. Good luck and hang in there!

I had a D&C/Hysteroscopy in July 99. My doctor had hoped that it would decrease my bleeding and give me some relief at least for a few months and also provide us with some answers as to what was going on. 3 days after the D&C/Hysteroscopy the bleeding returned and was even worse than before. That is when my hysterectomy was scheduled. I had fibroids, endometriosis, adenomyosis and endometrial hyperplasia. I also had my ovaries removed at the time of the hysterectomy, but as Gee stated, that is a personal decision that only you can make with the guidance of your doctor. I basically left the decision up to my doc, I told him that if they weren't 100% healthy then I wanted him to take them out because I didn't want to have to return later to have them removed. After the surgery he told me that I basically had no choice - the ovaries were in bad shape from the endometriosis - so he took them.

Wishing you the very best with your upcoming surgery.

Thank you

I am so thankful I have found this site. Thank you for your experiences. Today, I think I may be a little bit better. I have a trip planned for Friday 3/12 to be with my daughter in NYC. I sure hope I can go as she has bought us tickets to shows. One that I am really excited to see is "Menopause - The Musical". Anyone familiar with it? Hope to hear from my other princesses!
