infected sore above incision

I have a question that I could not find in my search here.....I had a TAH on Feb. 6th..and have had infections since the day of surgery, causing me to stay in the hosp. for 5 days to be pumped full of antibiotics. There was never a conclusion as to what the infection was or where it came from.
I have had one infection after another since coming home. I have had to go to my Dr. 3 times already about this. It seemed to have cleared up when I saw her a week and a half ago...then it came back with a vengence. She gave me a cream for the infection, calling it a yeast infection..which was in my incision and under one of my breasts.
Now...on top of all this...I have a huge wet scab on the upper part of my incision. It is about the size of a silver dollar, and it is extremly painful. I am continuing to keep the cream on it, and have to put a bandage on it to keep it from leaking all over my clothes. I was cleaning it out with pyroxide and water, but, it has become too painful to keep doing that.
Does anybody have a clue as to what is going on here? My Dr. is aware of it, and I have an appt. with her on Thursday of this week, and I spoke to her nurse on this past Fri. afternoon, and she told me to call her back first thing Monday morning and she will do her best to get me in sooner. I am in a HMO, so, my Dr. is only there certain days of the week. I am having to take pain pills for the pain...I don't want to keep living like this!!!! Help!!!! Any ideas or suggestions would be more then appreciated!!!!!!!!!! God's blessings to all of you!!!!!!

I had a little infection in my incision, but nothing like yours. If your GP doesn't know what it is, you might ask about seeing a dermatologist.

As far as the localized infection on your incision goes, a friend who's an RN told me to smash a clove of garlic and put it on the open infection and put a bandage over it. I had a horrible infection on my toe and it cleared it up overnight. If you don't want to smell like garlic in bed, put it on in the morning and wash it off before bed.

Use that only as a stop-gap measure until you can see a doc.

Bless you heart~ what an uncomfortable situation! I know your doctor will find the solution.. just keep being the "sqeaky wheel" and call him if you need help.

One thing I thought you might do is keep your unhealed areas open to the air as much as you can. Yeast loves a moist environment.. I made sure to sleep with nothing on my incision (sometimes nothing on at all!) and let the ceiling fan blow on my tummy all night long. That really dried things up quick! I also made sure to dry the incision every day after showering using a blow dryer on a low setting.

Good luck! I hope you get some good news about your appointment on Monday.

As far as preventing yeast infections, I also take care to dry my incision area. Remembering the painful heat/moisture rash thing I had there several years ago because of the overlap, I found there was an odor problem there too, I've started putting antiperspirant on my incision. It's thoroughly closed up, so no chance of contamination. It seems to be working. No odor, no rashes.
