That many STITCHES!!!

Yikesssss,
I just read on another post about needing
100 stitches internally.

Does it really take that many? I knew it would
take a few and don't ask how I thought I'd be held
together but 100 stitches??????????

That many STITCHES!!!

Hi kmarie,
Yes, it really does...you won't feel most of the internal ones though. I asked my DR after the surgery how many stitches I had and she said "Oh, I don't know, I didn't count, but it's hundreds" (TVH, BSO, A&P repair and resuspension). 99% of them dissolved completely and I only ever saw maybe 5 or 6 of them come out, and they were little pieces. When I went for my 6 week checkup (4 weeks ago now) she said they had almost all dissolved already.
Just keep in mind the huge number of stitches when you are feeling pretty good and are tempted to overdo, and ... DON'T!
and you'll be fine.

Hi Kmarie

I wanted to ask my doctor at my post-op follow up how many I had, but didn't get to. I am not entirely sure he would have known. But yes, I do believe it is ALOT. I am sure it varies a bit depending on what all is removed and repaired etc.
Isn't it nice they are on the inside, though?
I think this is good information to have. It really brings home the importance of rest, sleep, staying in a prone position most of the time, no lifting etc. There is a tremendous amount of internal healing that needs to happen.
This is also helpful information for family or employer's to be aware of if they think we should be back to normal in 2-3 weeks. NOT!
Explains the swelly belly too doesn't it.
Inspite of all those stiches I really had very little discomfort. My pain meds worked fine in the hospital. I only took one pain pill after I got home and then my Tylenol PM at night.
You're going to do just fine.
