Post-op headaches?

Hi Sisters,
I go in for my LAVH with anterior repair on Monday, April 15th. I am having a spinal anesthetic which will help with a speedier recovery. However, I am very prone to tension and stress headaches as well as migraine headaches. I have read that headaches are a common aftereffect of a general anesthetic. But should I expect headache(s) after a spinal? Quite frankly, I am more worried about suffering yet another crushing headache after the surgery than post-op pain related to the surgery itself. Any ideas? Experiences? Suggestions? CMC

Post-op headaches?

cmc, I had an epidural and then spinal (the epi didn't work) with my c-Section 7 years ago and I had general with my hyster almost 3 weeks ago. I have suffered for years with the same headaches you describe. I can tell you that with both procedures that I didn't have any "headaches" at all. The worst they got for me was a sore feeling all over my head because I was so drugged that I laid around on those hospital pillows. After I was up and walking, no problems at all.

Now, almost 3 weeks later, I have not had any headaches, knock on wood! I am prone to them because I have a lot of stress on my job, but I keep Excedrin Migraine handy and take them as soon as I feel one coming on (you know what they feel like if you've ever had them). I'm sure I will keep with this form of medicine unless they were to get any worse.

But so far so good. If you get a headache while in the hospital, tell the nurses/doctors. I am sure they can help you out, after all, they want you to be as comfortable and relaxed as you can be so you can heal. Best of luck!
