2 weeks today, starting to freak!!

I really wasn't all that worried about this initially, but now my gyne is going to do a bladder repair. Initially she wasn't going to, said that my tests showed a possible neurogenic condition that would not be solved by surgery, but possibly by self catheterization. That wasn't my idea of a long term solution!! They referred me back to the specialist who has a one to two year waiting list!! Fortunately for me I work in the health care industry and know the specialist's nurse, she passed my test results on and she concluded that a TVT surgery would help me. That's where they use a mesh tape to hold up the urethra. I was really pleased initially to hear this until I went back to my gyne and she says that I have to be conscious for this surgery! AHHHH! Apparently I'll be getting a spinal, she'll do the bladder repair and then carry on with the hysterectomy. I'm terrified right now, I DO NOT want to be conscious throughout the whole surgery. Has anybody else had this done?? I go for my pre-op next week and hopefully they'll be able to answer a few questions about it, like, HOW MUCH VALIUM ARE YOU GIVING ME?? I am really scared and know that I'm going to have an asthma attack because of this. Oh, I didn't change my surgery date on my info page, it was originally scheduled for the 16th but was moved back a week til the 23rd.

TVT

Hi, Debbie! I didn't have bladder repair, but perhaps you need to be conscious for that part of your surgery so you can "bear down" when your dr is working? Here is a thread discussing TVT http://www.hystersisters.com/vb2/sho...ghlight=kegels You could send a private message to Lisa if you wanted to ask specific questions. I would expect, though, that after the bladder repair is completed, the anesthesiologist could give you meds in your IV to either make you very drowsy or completely put you to sleep so you would have no memory of anything. In any event, the anesthesiologist will make sure you are as comfortable as possible and not having any pain. s and best wishes!
