Signs & Symptoms

This is my first posting. I am a social worker so I spend my time being a listener and problem solver for others. I need to vent and share and question - this seemed like a good place to start. I just came from the OB/GYN. I will have a hysterectomy and maybe the oopherectomy thing too depending on what the MD sees when she goes in to look.

2 years ago, I had an ablation of the uterine. for endometriosis. It bought me a year of pain free/period free life. Then out of the blue, I stared have ovarian cramps that alternated from side to side on a cycle. That went on for about 6 months. Then I had spotting to go along with it. The past sx months have been getting progressively worse. The pain from the ovaries (alternating most months) is so bad it knocks me to my knees. I have gone to the ER once for a shot. And now I use Lortabs when the pain is at its worst. I have had night sweats for months - now I am having them in the daytime.

Is the pre menopause.......ovarian cancer.......endometriousis....
mental illness.......hypercondriasis.....WHAT?

What in the heck is going on here with my body?

I have read some of the postings in here. Am I making light of this operation? Should I be more concerned? Comments please.

I am full of information and advice for others...but I am dirt stupid when it comes to me.

Signs & Symptoms

Hi Jocoleman, No you are not dirt stupid. Some people react to this surgery quite well. Those people who have had enough pain and discomfort often look forward to it. I wanted to put an end to all the misery but at the same time was ridiculously nervous about the surgery and especially my recovery. I am 40 and I have a very active 2 yr old son. I was afraid I wouldn't be able to care for him. I had a LAVH on 3-18 and feel pretty darn good. I have been very careful about almost everything ( I slip up on lifting the boy sometimes) and so far my recovery has been uneventful. I say if you can face this without too much fright then more power to you!!!!! Good luck. It won't be as bad as some people might think. As my anesthesiologist was putting me to sleep he said " You are going to sleep well and when you wake you will wonder why you were so worried" He was right.
