With an LAVH it think they take it out, they have to. I am having a TAH, but have been reading alot about everything, it is interesting.

But there are alot of good resourses and links out there, especially hyster sister site, it is the best!

I think it matter if you've had any abnormal paps or problems, otherwise you should ask your docs opinion. Then its your choice.

LAVH May 9th, What about the cervix

Cathy, I had a LAVH/LSO 13 days ago. Doing great - thank God! This is what *my* gyn. said about taking the cervix - he said that without seeing the tissue of the uterus and cervix under a microscope - just looking at it during the surgery - you can't tell exactly where the uterus ends and the cervix begins, so it would have to be an educated guess as to the exact spot to cut to remove the uterus and keep the cervix. He said if he missed it a little bit and left even a tiny bit of uterine tissue on the top of the cervix, that that tissue could bleed - and I definitely didn't want that!!! He also said taking the cervix with the uterus would be easier than trying to take the cervix out afterwards if any problem came up with the cervix. So I agreed with him to take out the cervix, too. I've been told by many ladies that not having a cervix does not compromise any
intimacy issues, if that is a concern for you.

**Please remember** that this is what *my* gyn. told me - please ask your doctor - and even another doctor or as many as you wish - about this.

You'll do fine! Keep coming back - the ladies here are great!!
I am so glad someone recommended this website to me.

s and to you, love, Sue

I'd say that if it wasn't discussed, they probably assumed you knew that they were taking the cervix. Better ask to be sure.

I had an abd hyst, but from reading and researching, with a vag hyst you don't have a choice, the cervix has to be removed, no other way to remove the uterus.

Please, never assume anything...ask your Dr. exactly what will be taken out.
It is your right as a human to know what is being done to you during surgery.
Good luck and blessings,
Paula

I had a LAVH and they took the uterus & cervix. Ask your doctor to tell you exactly wht they are doing. Before surgery my doctor sat down with me and explained everything to me and answered all my questions.
