swelling

Hey,
I keep hearing a lot about tummy swelling. Does this happen regardless of the procedure you have, also what about the staples and are there any inner sutures? I'm schedule for a LAVH/BSO. thanks for your help

Hi, Dorla! Not every woman has a lot of swelling, but usually there is some because of all the work done inside your abdomen. Ladies with abdominal hyst typically have more than those with vag hyst and it can last for a couple months. Then it can reappear when you do too much activity, like at the end of a busy day. The external sutures or staples depend on your dr preference. Even if you have staples (which look awful but don't feel that bad) the edges of the incision will probably be pretty numb and they don't hurt much when removed. You can ask your dr what he plans to use. s

Hi Dorla!

I can't speak for anyone but myself, however I had a LAVH/BSO on Mar 20. No swelly belly after leaving the hospital. One thing I did do was to wiggle into a support garment (in my case a large support brief). It helps with supporting those muscles that got stretched and pulled every which way as well as keeping the swelling to a minimum. Ask your Dr. if this will be ok for you. Some allow it, some don't.

Good luck and keep posting! s
